Among other things, STB control is meant to prevent the use of decoder-like boxes (also known as STBs) that are subsidised by the state outside South Africa.
Inversely:
You will have to purchase the expensive local (UEC) unit, instead of the mass produced cheap international (Chinese/Korean/TW) unit.

Anyway, good thing hope this allows us to proceed and introduce DTT ASAP to
a) free up the airwaves to more productive use
b) introduce some competition to Monochoice

Q. With CAM, will I be able to stop my SABC license?

We are all hoping so, and we don't see why not.
If we don't have the STB, then we are physically incapable of receiving a broadcast.
That amounts to the same thing as "de-naturing" your TV.
So, at that point I will be informing them of my inability to receive a boardcast signal and requesting them to cancel my TV license.

... But we all know what's going to happen... they will just keep sending the invoices.

SABC license also covers radio broadcasts is'nt it? So if you have a radio receiver in your house you will be acquired to pay the license fee! :erm:

No, the radio requirement was dropped decades ago. There is a reason why it is called a "Television" license these days! ;)

Pule appears to have been caught like a gormless deer in headlights by the photographer(s), either that or she had not met her jaw dropping quota for catching flies. The "DTT" guy next to her seems quite unimpressed.
