Document folder for common use

Device Iphone 4 iOS 6.1.3. Is there any folder for common application use?
I installed Aji Reader, but it can only access PDF files from Aji servers or Http Web. There is no way to transfer PDF files from PC. Other application like Scanner Pro has file sharing section in iTunes, but it doesn't like this file.

I downloaded iOS user manual and I don't want to download it again from Internet, it is large, 15Megs. I added PDF file to the library, it goes to iBooks section. When I am trying to sync, it says I have to install iBook app. I have reader already installed. It doesn't make sense to sync documents for separate apps, is there no common folder accessible for all apps?

Other related question: How to save PDF document in Safari for other app use? I did save it in Reading List, so I can read it off-line. Now I want to read it in Aji. When I do copy/paste, it transfers link location to some internal storage space, but Aji is not able to access it.
 
iOS by design (security reasons) does not support a shared folder between Apps; I'd suggest you read up about Apple's design choices related to sandboxing of applications i.e. No other app can access folders created by another app.

This choice to use sandboxing is a key reason why iOS is far less prone to virus issues.

This of course has been a huge area for frustration with new "power" users to iOS -- that all been said there are a number of ways around this problem; you just need a few apps to help make it easier, for example:

I'd suggest installing an App called "Files Connect" which will allow Safari to download any file, including PDFs that are stored in zip files.

Using this app you can then unzip the file, and open it in your preferred PDF app: Goodreader (as mentioned by Bwana is a good one) -- I'm personally comfortable with iBooks.

"File Connect" also allows you another simple way to transfer files To or From your iOS device that doesn't require iTunes -- again I'm personally happy with iTunes, but I also use "Files Connect" in certain situations.

Yet we all can agree that Apple still has to find a better way to accommodate inter App communication -- fortunately the App store has many helper Apps that can make your experience a lot simpler.

1. Unfortunately Good Reader is not free. Not expensive, but at the moment I can't make online payments.

2. The first things I tried was downloading iBooks, but it requires iOS 7 and iTunes doesn't allow to download any previous version compatible with iOS 6.

Researchinng more, will come back.

Btw you can buy iTunes gift cards (SA store) at most major retailers.
 
This is pity that Apple doesn't allow me to download a right version of iBooks for my OS. This is a move below the belt. Does Apple always do it for you?

Why the hesitance to upgrade? You certainly shouldn't blame Apple and / or any other developer for your choice to not upgrade.

The majority of iOS devices have already upgraded to iOS 7; as a developer I certainly don't bother with older iOS versions; because it's such a minor group, quite a few of which are probably jailbroken.

It certainly isn't a group that justifies the additional costs for coding / testing and hosting.

+ to support these guys will prevent the developer from adopting any new APIs / features; which comes with a probability of losing sales to their competitors for lack of new feature support.

Personally I might be a little hesitant if I was upgrading an iPhone 4.

If it doesn't work on your iPhone download iBooks to your PC via itunes first and then, on your iPhone click on purchased apps and download from there.

While I'm happy with iOS7 on my iPhone5 and Mini retina I regret upgrading the iPad3 and I'm really hesitant to upgrade the iPad2.

Strange, they're perfectly acceptable IMO on both those test units; yet I'll agree the performance of 7.1 is definitely better than 7.04

It's not free but worth every cent. I don't use it for reading. Just for transferring files, downloads, uploads etc. The ability to access network shares, upload and download to cloud storage makes it an essential app for me.

Can't judge 7.1 until I've tried it but I'm really not enjoying 7.04 on the iPad3. Not my problem now though since I replace it with the rMini and gave the iPad3 to my kids. :)

There's also a free PC/Mac app called GoodreaderUSB which lets you copy to Goodreader via usb without iTunes.

The only issues I really noticed is a higher incidence of app crashes, but that's fairly common around a new iOS release; you need only look at the number of Flipboard updates prior to iOS 7 for an indication of the problems; some which are clearly due to Apple, but some also down to the developers.

I certainly don't find the Mini retina to be less prone to these app crashes.

The new CPUs are certainly more zippy.

the mini doesnt suffer from the keyboard, and more general, lag that the plagues my iPad3. Something that wasnt an issue on iOS6.

Strange I didn't noticed any of that, and I had been testing quite a bit on it -- The good news is that I haven't seen any of this on 7.1

Guess it's a case of not enough time for them to iron all the performance issues before the release date of iOS7 -- that's probably why they're now taking extra time with 7.1
