... European/SA PS3?

Please don't turn this thread into another sony "hateboi" fest or a PS3 vs XB360 argument - there are plenty of those already. I'm just interested to hear some feedback from people who actually have one.

I borrowed one for a couple of days and I'm really impressed. I'm not really a gamer, so I can't argue for the games quality with any authority(motorstorm is pretty cool tho'). I'm just impressed with the overall package. The build quality is excellent, the UI is really intuitive - I set it up with my wireless network in about 2 minutes. The controller is ok, the motion sensor is cool, but I think the xbox controller's triggers are much better designed.

The playstation store interface is imho better than the microsoft version, but there isn't all that much available in the european store yet. I'm busy downloading GT concept HD - hopefully it will be finished by the time I get home.

Blu-ray movie playback...WOW! I watched Casino Royale and it is awesome. I may buy it just for the Blu-ray.

While it is (really) expensive t seems to be a really good product, I hope that the games catch up with the technology.

PS.... Unusually for Sony, it seems that you can upgrade the HDD yourself without buying proprietary accessories.

comparisons are ok...arguments not.

I meant stuff like "teh 360 r0xors and P$3 sucks...":D

lol... im actually getting very soon, as for the european store there will be more stuff added monthly or very fortnight if i read correctly, and remember it's pretty empty coz if kinda only been oopen for 2 or 3 weeks so...

i do think the ps3 has one of the best blu-ray play backs coz of the gpu in it helps alot. as for the controls i just hope logitech or another 3rd party developer can create a good solid ps3 controller to that will don't have to deal with the current one. i find the ps3's controller far to light weight even though there's the motion sensor and there's a whole battery inside.

Before buying one as Blu-Ray player make sure you are aware that the Blu-Ray standards are changing in November 2007 and the current PS3 model does not abide by these standards.

It may be possible to update the PS3's Blu-Ray to the new standard but it may not.... You don't want to be stuck with a dodgy Blu-Ray player. Buy a PS3 for games and a Blu-Ray player for movies :D

Moral of the story, adopters of early technology always pay the price.

Atleast with the PS3 there's some hope that the problems will be resolved with a firmware update.

oh my lord, are you serious? dude come on, all it is, is a picture in picture feature, kinda like the one popping up in tv's... it's not like it's a revolutionary feature like PAUSE or PLAY! lord, honestly i don't think any one would give a **** if it's there or not. and did you the part where it says that ONLY SOME MOVIES WILL SUPPORT IT. oh well, and it again says that blu-ray players don't have to have it to play movies.

I demo'ed the one at Incredible Inflation Tygervalley last week and I wasn't impressed at all. I thought I was gonna snap the controller in half, it feels very light and flimsy. The L2,R2 triggers might also break off if it drops. The guide button or what ever the ps-logo button in the center supposed to do is not functioning.

It was running NFS:carbon on mecer 32 inch with a hdmi cable and I can truely say I get better visuals in regards to anti-aliasing and framerate out of my pc. But I won't judge it yet on this game because it's probaly a ps2 port. But hey, first impressions last.

Ive got one and think it's awesome. Well worth the R6300 IMO. Build quality is superb and stylish. My only complaint is a small one really and it is about the controller. Feels a bit too light and cheapy compared to the rest of the machine, and the R2 and L2 buttons are a step backwards in the comfort department. But really thats just nitpicking...

I wouldnt call that nitpicking Spark. The controller is one of the most important aspects of your console. But dont worry, you will see 3'rd party controllers pretty soon that will probably be much better than the original ones.

Not quite that simple, the "picture" isn't just a block in the corner. It could be the film's director literally standing in the scene and pointing at something saying "this shot was impossible until we realised we had to move this thing here from over there..." etc. It's actually pretty cool.

Could probably be used to great effect for interactive movies and the like.

lol... ok, but im sure if it's such a cool feature that people at sony hq will make and update to support this feature. i mean look at background downloading, people made such a big fuss over it, and about a month later update 1.6 came out and abra cadabra there's background downloading.

as of the controllers, my friend was so pissed off with the weight that he risked a R500 controller to make it heavier. all he did was open it up and put lead weights in side, the lead weights he used are from the scale electric cars (you know those little cars that go around on set tracks, you buy lead weights that have a sticky side to them) and then he closed it up after adding 100grames on each side, so it's pretty heavy but feels more manly now.

This could just be the store setup. I've noticed with some in-store 360 demo units that the display quality varied widely from store to store cuz some peeps know how to set up the displays properly and others don't. I've seen a couple that looked really crap on the LCD displays, and others that have looked awesome cuz the display was set up correctly.
