I want to sell my car. So i was wondering where can i post it and how much do they charge and whether it works...

i tried gumtree, and i got 1 or two calls.

so does auto trader work? anyone ever sold their car through it?

I have had very good success rate with autotrader, but i was selling certain in demand vehicles...

On the plus, if i am looking for a car, autotrader is the only non-online reference i use. But ur success is directly related to the quality of your car and how reasonable the price is..

Also check out AA Autobay. They do all the advertising, calls, paperwork, arrange test drives etc. for you but you still sell 'privately'. They charge a small % of your selling fee (R1500-R3000 depending on the car's value) and I think it is worth it to avoid scammers, hijackers, chancers and finance disasters. www.aaautobay.co.za

I check the autotrader all the time, and everyone else I know looking for a car. Found my Bantam on there. I assume it has a high success rate due to it specializing in cars, unlike scamtree, and that I suspect it has the highest volume websites of its kind,.

Just checked out their website. That looks like a really good route to go. They do all the advertising for you, sort out the test-drives and credit check potential buyers therefor guaranteeing you get paid...

I also used AAAAAutobay last year to try & sell my car. Wasn't a bad experience at all. I did mostly get calls from traders though, with offers +/- 15% lower than I advertised. The nice part is that they (AA) handle most of the transaction.
They made an appointment with me to have the car do an AA test, which I had to pay for ( IIRC was somewhere around R380 ). They then advertised the car on their site & the local papers.
The following week I received a call from them stating that they had someone that would like to test drive the vehicle & could I bring the vehicle in.
They accompanied the potential customer, so minimal involvement was required from me.

Didn't manage to sell the car though....

I sold a car through Auto Trader once. BIG downside is that for literally months you get lots of calls from other magazines and publications asking you to list there for a fee.

If you think autotrader attracts dodgy callers, try advertising in junkmail motor section. I've gotten weirdos who wants to buy my car and wants to meet at some dodgy place for a test drive.

Precisely the reason I went with AAAAutobay - apparently they also arrange the finance i.e. they get the moneys from the buyer & pay you therefore no risk

yes it works, but there is sites i found that is free... at least last i checked.. checkout searchacar.co.za. let me know

Worked for me. Sold a 1 yr old car by advertising online and in the mag.

I also found it useful for general research

I tried to sell a car on Autotrader, really bad experience, one guy banked a fraudluent cheque into my account and tried to collect the car, the other a Asstralian told me his money has to come from Asstralia and would give me a 20% deposit and I should give him the vehicle till his money come from Asstralia. BTW in both instances they would have a third party collect. Showed them both the Bird.

You could always try http://www.wheels365.co.za, it looks like a newish site but i like the search functionality, it also has a nice financial calculator. Given time i think this site will give some of the others a run for their money.:)

That database is obviously still a little thin. I couldn't find a single car...all of which I had found on surf4cars...Guess we'll have to give it some time.

Lately I have been using cars.co.za and the site works quite sweet. Doesn't cost much at all to advertise either.

Important Notice

Dear customer,

In 2009, the AA entered into a brand licence agreement with the Imperial Group, allowing them to provide a platform for private-to-private vehicle sales under the AA Autobay brand.

As a result of a decline in market demand, it is no longer commercially viable to offer this service. We have, therefore, mutually agreed to terminate the brand licence agreement. Consequently, the AA Autobay online sales portal and back office administration hubs will cease operations on 31 August 2013.

However, rest assured, we will still be available to assist any existing customers who have previously purchased a vehicle through AA Autobay, and customers can direct their enquiries to 0861 22 22 29.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
