Hi,

Will bread make you gain fat around your waist? I gym 4 times a week and run on the treadmill 4 times a week 3 km a day. and over weekend i do 5 km on a Saturday and Sunday. I also walk around a lot at work (About 4km a day according to my Garmin)

So in total I jog about 22km a week and walk a minimum of 21km.

I am working on gaining muscle because I am skinny and I also want to lose the tummy fat that I have.

I make 2 sandwiches (4 slices) with chicken and mayo on every day for work. I eat wholewheat or lo GI.

Just want to know if I should cut out bread?

Like I said I am working on muscle building.
This is my eating routine:

Meal 1 - Oats
Meal 2 - Sandwich 1
Meal 3 - Chicken breast or steak strips brown rise and broccoli
Meal 4 - Sandwich 2
Shake
Meal 5 - Chicken breast with broccoli

Will the bread make me gain fat around my stomach?

4 Slices a day is a bit much, you should try to restrict yourself to two carbs a day (two servings or slices).
And remember that workout accounts for only 20% of weight loss - 80% of weight loss is calorie restriction.

2 slices of Bread or 1 portion brown rice a day.

Replace the bread with say a banana, some almonds and a boilt egg.

You can even eat the chicken mayo with some salad.

Full cream yoghurt will be better for you than too high a starch/carb diet.

I remember from your other thread that you want to gain weight. Cardio -walk/running does not build muscle so much as what it burns calories.

Macro nutrients mean less than your calorie intake if you're just focused on cutting fat.

If you're trying to lower your body fat, focus on reduces how many calories you eat. Bread is calorie dense, so if you want to fill up on something, choose something less dense so you can eat "more" before reaching your calorie cap.

@OP what you drink is as important as what you eat, note down anything that goes into your mouth here.

Balance cardio with weight training then you can keep the carbs higher.

Someone that runs the comrades marathon will suffer if they look like He-man-the-Hulk...

However a marathon runner is not likely to lift 50/60kgs + in weights.
(might not be where you start, but you could get there)

OP sounds like hes so skinny, the tiny amounts of fat he has stands out, and then he burns any gains away by overdoing cardio...

Banting, like every other weight-loss system, uses calorie deficits.

Damn. but I get so hungry during the day.

Part of the reason for this is likely that you are starting your meal with 2 sets of carbs.

All the hysteria about LCHF notwithstanding, I am comfortably able to eat once every 24 hours when avoiding carbs. However, if I happen to eat carbs in the morning, absolutely ravenous by brunch time...

Ditto, I wonder why...

Also, is the 24hours thing to teach discipline or just because?

If you want to know why, do some research on insulin /glucagon balance.

Low blood sugar triggers appetite and food craving.

If there's any particular reason, it's mostly laziness coupled with the potential benefits of intermittent fasting.

Full disclosure though, I've failed profoundly in recent history, been eating basically like the LA Beast for months now, much shame...

Everything and nothing makes you fat.
You can lose weight eating nothing but chocolate cake (and get some scurvy in the process), and gain weight only eating stuff with a weight watchers label on them.

Your genes also determine where you gain weight, but for men it will most likely be in the stomach. It will be the first place you gain, and the last place you lose fat.

It would probably be better to substitute the bread for potatoes or even rice, but if gaining weight (building muscle) is your goal, 4 slices of brown isn't too bad. If you are very skinny, I would rather forget about the stomach and jogging, and focus on building muscle. For that you need carbs as well. Don't do what I did. Don't half-ass it. You want to build muscle, eat for gaining weight. Don't think just lifting without eating a lot will get you good results.

I don’t do any of that running and gymming and eat plenty of bread and don’t get any fatter from it.

Therefore it must be the gym that is causing it.

:)
