On 14 February I put in an application to Mweb for their 4MB uncapped service. As we have a Telkom line they only had to apply for the ADSL link. On 3 Feb I received an email from Mweb stating that my application had been confirmed with Telkom. Thereafter I heard nothing. Yesterday (23 Mar) I phoned to enquire what had happened to the application, only to be advised that the ADSL had been active since 8 Mar. No notifications have been received from Mweb to date!!
I was also advised that my account had been downgraded to a 384kb link as this was the only speed available in my area.(Sunward Park, Boksburg)
As I live 800m from the Telkom exchange I felt Mweb had slipped up and were b/s me.
I phoned Mweb this morning to complain about their service and the fact that we have been charged for the service since 8 March. Eventually I got to a Clinton who took all my details and promised he would get back to me as far as the 4MB connection at 16: 00 this afternoon. Well that time has passed and no returned call.
I also took the trouble to walk to the Telkom exchange this morning to establish what connection speed I could expect. A senior Techie confirmed that the exchange was 4MB enabled and living so close to it I could expect a 4Mb connection.
MWEB: I want my 4MB connection now and my billing can only start from 23 March!!!

Is this the norm for MWEB or have I just been unlucky?

yeah think may have just hit the unlucky fan.

did you opt for the all-inclusive package?

also, your dates don't match. Yesterday was 23 MARCH not FEBRUARY :)

also try and get in contact with the same person every time.
I know it sounds stupid, but so many times the line of communication gets "diverted" somewhere and it ends up causing lots of trouble.

as angel mentioned, PM the Mweb guy on here (think Will@Mweb) and pretty sure things will get sorted.

hope you get it sorted as their service is up there with the tops (well when this doesn't happen :D )

Thanks, PM sent

I have now ben contacted by a few staff members and have been advised that the starting date of the connection has been corrected. I was also told by the last advisor that my connection applied for was indeed a 4MB line but MWEB had allocated me the 384kb package. Hopefully this will be resolved on Monday (28th)
Thanks MWEB Guy and Zaino at MWEB.

My advice is you rather get the line setup straight through telkom, then from there you can migrate the line.

It will save plenty hassles because you cut out the middleman getting confused or making a mistake. Personally i would keep the line with telkom and just use the uncapped account. Works out more but if there are problems at least you are dealing directly with telkom who are actually remarkably efficient and the adsl support is superb in my opinion.

I don't mind having MWEB at this stage as the payment point for the ADSL connection, but I follow your logic re any line or connection problems that may occur. MWEB Guy can comment but the ADSL was applied for on my behalf from Telkom, I don't see it as a hassle if I ever wanted to move the payment to Telkom. As I am new to ADSL I will suss the scene out well and give MWEB a fair chance to prove themselves. I don't intend to be an insane user so I hope my connection will not be unduly throttled.

glad to hear communication has been made between the 2 parties.

now hope you get sorted.

I was also opting to rather stick with Telkom for line related things as I never knew what "problems" could occur if something had happened to my line and I wanted to get it fixed. who would I contact? what would their response be?

but, I am so far more than happy with going for the All-Inclusive.

Thanks MWEB Guy and all connected at MWEB that we working on my problem. I am now on a 4MB connection and have managed to get 3.4MB d/l which seems fine for 15:00.
This is not as fast as my 3G connection, but the speeds should prove to be more stable, and of course much cheaper than 19c/MB.
Now maybe I can expect an apology of some sort from MWEB. (Or maybe a promise not to throttle the account)
But thanks.

Well they will throttle the account, i think they have sorted you out fairly quickly so just be thankful they worked so hard and got it working.

As for the throttling you may find you will like it and then the fun begins.

Who wants fast 3g? I download 100+gb a month, imagine that was on faster 3g  I would need to sell body parts to cover the usage :D.

@killadoob: Yes I guess it will happen sometime but as I am not a big user I doubt if I will even get close to 30GB/month. Remember I am used to 2-3 GB on 3g, so anything more than 10 GB is a bonus. The main reason for my package is to Skype my son and family who moved to Australia last December and maybe a few movies. (I can smell an iPad2 in May)
So far I am getting about 3.5 MB d/l on average so this is fine for my purposes.
