Like the title suggests.. I'm currently on Afrihost Uncapped with their stupid (once you reach 50Gb or higher you'll bend over for us and get "throttled")

Now what I need to know is does MWEB Uncapped also throttle accounts like this or not?

If not, I will cancel my Afrihost account and move to MWEB ASAP.

Any responses to this would help me in choosing the right ISP for me, I've basically had it with Afrihost..

MWeb does not throttle when you've reached a certain threshhold. 130gig and counting..

130 gigs in a day ? you on 12 meg uncapped ?

mweb is the best deal, but I do find it suspicious that generally my torrents downloads much faster since the 1st than it did towards the end of last month

I've signed up with mweb yesterday , just need to send some documents through now . How long would it take to activate my line? I heard upto 3 weeks sometimes! My first ADSL account so I'm excited :)

End of last month would have been terriable, especially with the outage and then people downloading "to make up for it ".

*EDIT* And no Mweb do not throttle , shaping only 24/7.

been 400k non stop :P not with mweb, used to get like 100k ! so depends on your needs.

MWEB

MWEB is not just the best service provider to go with in my opinion going with any other provider is pointless. No throttling at all in my 2 months so far - i just hope it stays the same - else we move on to greener pastures i guess

The shaping is quite heavy and you will notice it very much on 384. They do not relax the shaping much after business hours. In fact it is quite unpredictable.
Certain things are 'not prioritised', like Torrents. Some websites are throttled too, like Rapidshare and similar.

Anything that uses more data than browsing is curtailed, even gaming.

MWEB appears to have bought a finite amount of bandwidth and are cramming in as many users as they can get away with. When it gets slow, they just blame it on other users downloading too much!

Having said that, even though they reduce the speed you get, you get good value for the amount you eventually get. I just wish it was more organised/predictable.

Well..

I have a 4mb line, and i don't use torrents that often, Mostly hotfile/megaupload etc, and the occasional ftp/http downloads..

Also how would the account affect gaming? 800-1200ms on Afrihost on wow.. not even throttled yet..

This is a family based account and anyone can use/download what they want on any number of systems in the house..

So should i offically just tell Afrihost to go die and go with mweb?

Ah damn, this 78gb torrent of Top Gear for my dad would take a while to get.. ^^

Considering getting mweb now based of some of these opinions..

That's exactly what I was talking about why users with uncapped are getting TFVPS and many are adding rapidleech (addon with TFVPS) to download rapidshare unshaped.

Most ISPs shape quite heavily on P2P and Filesharing...

I would suggest Mweb. They do not throttle. Your torrent downloads for instance will get shaped heavily though.
Many users with Mweb uncapped use TFVPS to unshape their account though.

Eish dude, have you got no shame?

Big deal, hes mentioning his product (which may be helpful to the OP). You comment as if being a capitalist or trying to earn a living makes you evil. He mentioned it once in the thread, its not annoying. Whats annoying is you making an issue out of it. If you're not interested just ignore him.
EDIT: Okay I looked again, he mentioned it twice, without anyone expressing interest. Thats a bit much.

I use mweb uncapped 384k on my 4mbit line, I use it to run downloads. Its sick, its the only truely uncapped account available afaik. As said above, it is heavily shaped during office hours, and its unpredictable when it gets unshaped.

Exactly. And this is not the first thread he has (ab)used to advertise his warez.

I find it annoying. There are companies who buy advertising space on this website to advertise their products. If others therefore use the threads to advertise their products then they're getting that advertising for free and that's unfair to the people who paid for it.

Another thing I find quite dishonest is when some employees of ISPs portray themselves as regular users on the forum while posting deliberate negative comments about competing ISPs (to make their own ISPs look good). If you are an ISP representative then you must put that fact in your Signature.

Well that is the thing about shaping, it will be unpredictable because one can't predict when users will be using the internet heavy all of a sudden most of the time. Shaping is there because usage can't always be predicted and ensure that most users (except downloaders I guess) get a smooth experience.

Meh...I work for an ISP and I actually suggested using other ISPs that are not the one I work at, purely because I like the best products out there and if people want the best product I will suggest said product. Currently I am a huge fan of the M-Web uncapped accounts (use one myself!), not to mention they really impressed me the last 3 months with how they turned around and showed everyone they can be better than most ISPs out there (I was impressed when I called their support line and they even came back to me in less than 60 minutes and spoke to me in my home language which is not English).

And no I don't work at M-Web :P
