I would love to do that, just impractical at the moment in my situation, though am thinking of laying a network cable down instead of the extension.

I use a 15m network cable here just on the floor though under carpets

Fair enough, but it requires both the line quality to support it and the exchange infrastructure.
Interestingly I see my office lines are showing as 20mb adsl supported now on the telkom tool.

Agreed, you won't know how far you can push it until you try. A couple of CRC errors (Resends), if less than 0.1% of your total download is basically negligible unless you are an uber-network-phile!

If I lay another cable that is not neatly aligned along the corners, my wife will divorce me. My house already looks like a 1970's Telkom switchboard.

Got 5 cables spread out everywhere so I can understand lol and not to mention all the extension cables and plugs for my TV, pcs etc.

Well my sons are not complaining, my streaming is fine. But then if Dad was not footing the bill, I bet they would be screaming like stuffed pigs.

Some routers report in units of 0.1, others not. Just divide your number by 10.

I used the Telkom ADSL checker about a month ago. It came back with 20meg available. I upgraded through Afrihost and had a perfect 20 Meg ADSL 2+ connection. Sadly, upload speed was still limited to 1 Meg. I think this product would be a lot better with 2 Meg upload speed.

However, I didn't see any benefit to my internet "experience". Obviously app updates and downloads were much quicker, but streaming and web browsing barely changed.

One problem, my data usage skyrocketed. The buffering was so good on video, that although I might watch 15-20 seconds of a 5 minute clip, the entire clip was downloaded. Same with scrolling past videos on Facebook, etc.

So, saved the R1200 a year difference and went back to 10 Meg.

Note : Apple suggests an 8 meg line to stream 1080P video. Do you really need more? FTH more marketing than anything else.

That is true, but remember that some people will be sharing that bandwidth with their family of five for example.

Agreed. But, seeing as 1080p streamed movies are very large, 10 meg is more that enough for two concurrent 720p streams from Apple, DSTV (SD Only) or YouTube.

Just using my own experience as an example with two heavy users and one occasional user in the house.
