Does Vodacom sell a wireless 3G modem/router yet?

Its not an official label as yet. It may or may not end up being called that.
4G just indicates 4th Generation.
3G... 3rd Generation (where we are now).

I suppose W-CDMA will be the next thing we MIGHT see, as a bridging technology into the next-gen network.

Got some of my lingo messed up... sorry heehee.

I think i meant LTE as a bridging tech. Unless they manage to somehow integrate LTE as 4G... i vaguely remember some company trying to push for LTE to be recognized as 4G...

Could just be i was tired and misinterpreted the article. meh.

LTE won't be at the cost of 3G. The name itself proposes that standards have longer sustainable lives and existing techs don't go obsolete over night.

If LTE is not absorbed into the 4G standard, it will be very shortlived.
4G is (at least from one developer im aware of) scheduled and on-track for late 2010, early 2011.

Oh btw... Standards' lives are only as long as their need serves.
And techs do indeed, in fact very often, go obsolete overnight.

I went to my local Vodashop in the V&A Waterfront yesterday, but the sales people there don't know much about the B970 router and which data packages I can take with it. *sigh*

The other half of it is that their are "bodies" in place that "control" what is and what isnt part of any particular group.

The biggest thing in 4G is the speed requirements.

But anyway. It seems LTE will not be allowed as a 4G designation. [[LTE (designated "E-UTRA") is currently only defined as Pre-4G, as per 3GPP Rel. 8.]]
But there is strong hopes that LTE Advanced will.
