Dog ate wall ADSL cable socket-
what colour wires do I connect



Now I have a bare cable with about 18 different colour copper Scoobi-doo wires coming out.
I bought a new socket - but what 2...or 4 wires do I connect to it ?


How can I test the individual wires (prob a meter reader-hey?)

Im trying to do this -cos I cant wait for Telkom.

What kind of private technician would I look for in Cape Town if my DIY method fails?

im fairly sure you only need two wires for the telephone, get a multi-meter out, test for voltage, and you should find your two wires, positive and negative, and then there should be two places to screw the wire onto the box, if it doesn't work then try switching them around.

the other wires are probably splits for other extensions. but if you're in doubt then call an expert
 
touch the wires together and look for a spark. quickest and easiest. You wont get shocked.
 
connect all blue and red wires to the dog's nose and insert all other colours into its posterior

if it goes woof then you may want to try again
 
The lines should work between 48 to 50V DC..Use a multi meter to check for voltage...

and oh yes..spank the dog...:)
 
I recon Im testing for spark on my dog - seeing as he is the culprit-

just don't cut the red wire - your wall socket will explode!
 
Check the connection coming from the road into the house. there's normally 2 wires connected to that little connector box thing. Connect those same colours into the wall socket.

Please note that you should only do this after testing for voltage using the dog as a multimeter.
 
The TELKOM guy comes by try fix my problem and seems to be dragging his feet, and making me feel helpless.
I try figure his motivation...till he lays it out loud n clear.
He says - "I can fix your problem in my spare time for R400"

I was shocked.
I had to almost smack him in the mouth to show me the point where the lines were actually working at- then I told him I would get back to him ...in 2010....
I went and bought cable and ran it myself from that live point.

Where is honesty and work ethic gone?
How about just doing your job.
 
Its called entitlement, our main export in this country is entitlement. Everyone is owed something better don't you know?

I hope you reported him, and become really vindictive, and phone back every week to find out if they have fired him
 
I knew when I opened this thread I would get a good chuckle out of it.

Can't believe that Telskum guy - I really do suggest reporting him. When I had a Telkom guy come test my line the other day, he provided a good service and was quite pleasant.
