And guess what, it was a Labrador...

Obviously not worth any mention as it's not a Pitbull right?

Oudtshoorn - An inquest docket is being investigated by Oudtshoorn police after a little boy was mauled to death by the family dog on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said 4-year-old Peter Frans died in hospital shortly after being bitten by the Labrador shortly before 22:00.

The child had apparently being playing in the yard of their Bridgton home when tragedy struck.

"He was bitten in the neck and face. His parents tried to stem the blood loss with a towel and he was taken to the Oudtshoorn Hospital," Pojie said.

The child died a short while later.

The matter was being investigated, he confirmed.

The dog was reportedly put down following the incident.

Guess my gardener will show our Labs some respect next time they're salivating while he eats lunch :)

Labrador... surely a typo, autocorrected from rabid rotty cross jack or something

It's not the breed of dog that is the issue, it is the way the dog has been raised and the way it is treated.
Not likely the dog just went bos all of a sudden. There probably is more to this story.

Yeah, labradors I know are pretty much useless at everything 'guard/bark/attack/bite' related, don't even bark at fence jumpers, just wag tail and happy to see a visitor. Only good for one thing, companionship, smiles and happy feelings etc. Something must have gone horribly wrong here

/waiting for someone to come in and say that the Labrador was a cross between a Labrador and Pitbull.

Terrible.

You guys going on about pitbulls are aware of proving the point by pointing out the exception?

There is a narrative that states Labradors are of the most dangerous dog breeds but looking at stats around the world they seldom if ever make even the top 20.

So where the claim comes from I have no idea.

I guess even a poodle will go ape-schyte on you if you press the wrong button.

My one collie snapped at the baby on the weekend. I know exactly why, and manage that hierarchy. Check back in ten years and see how many times my dogs have mauled the kids or anyone else.

Being a bad parent, it's not just for the human kids you have in your pack anymore...
