I was thinking the same. The Generator will definitely benefit from the pump treatment.

Screwdrivers are for screwing... not removing filters. But seriously, I got the cup wrench for my bike because the filter is recessed and there is no easy way to get the new filter back on. I've just been lucky that the cup wrench also fitted my previous vehicle's oil filter as well as the one I own now.
Another reason is you may just find the filter you bought does not fit your vehicle and now you have to walk to the parts shop to exchange it because you cannot drive...

must tell you, the suck pipe is normal plastic, in the opel it just go down, but in the Honda it went in , but just a few centimeters, 2.4 petrol engine. So l move to plan normal way. But the dipstick does go in, maybe the thickness then
 
So before I buy the pump, I decided to measure the dipstick of the honda and the xtrail.

That is a good idea, but I did not try it. Thinner pipe might be more bendable and pump will have to suck harder or longer, unless you may get hold of a long straw.

lately, I fasten filter by hand, and sometimes loosten it by hand.
I got myself some type of plier, look like a water plyer with very long beak, this works the very best, but I have not seen one again in a shop.
