Donating blood

I donate at their building premises. Much more spacious. Big comfy chairs and hopefully fresh biscuits. :D

150 units so far.

long time ago, before bar codes, someone at work came to me, family were in accident and needed blood, my name was on the bag.

twice complained because there were new staff members who was only there for the job, not interested in their donors.

Donated quite recently for the first time. Nothing to it really, takes about 15 minutes to fill in all the paperwork and another 10 minutes giving blood.

Cool! Just make sure to donate a second time - they only start using your blood after the second donation. I suspect that this is to mitigate the risk of the window period.

As for payment for blood - I much prefer not being paid. I do believe that paying for blood increase the amount of contaminated blood SANBS receive.

Only 51 times so far would be more but was overseas, sick, ops and also had two incidents of extreme pain though: -(

i hate to admit all the drugs I am using before I can donate blood.

Also I have low sugar so if I dont eat a big meal with lots of sugary snacks I can't donate :<

Have been donating for the last 8 years, dunno how many bags I'm on at the moment :) But they come to our office block every couple of months so at least I don't have to go out of my way :)

No

and why should I?

You're never going to be in an accident, get an operation or have a pregnant wife? In short, are you never going to need blood? When life goes pearshape and you need blood or plasma, be thankful for those of us who don't share your attitude.

I donate like every 3 months.

I love the free $hit that you get and their sugary biscuits make my day.

Really, so what do they do with all the blood they receive from 1st time donations? Seems like a massive waste to test it and then throw it all away?

then I die...big fsking deal

and pregnant wife...NEVER

I donated for the first time last friday. I was left uncomfortable about the gay questions. WTF, are they implying that gay men are more promiscuous?

PS - if you thinking of donating, I suggest doing so now because They will need your donation as there will be more injuries during peak season.

ironically the first once or twice you donate, your blood will not be used...

if you keep donating at regular intervals, your blood might be used by mid year 2014.

I didn't know that. Still doesn't change my point. People will need blood this December, so please donate. :)

They still harvest for platelets and whatnot I think. I can ask the missus to confirm.

Back in late high-school and varsity I used to donate regularly -> I've donated +-31 times now.

Haven't donated in a few years - started getting tattoos done - and you are required to wait 6 months after getting inked to donate blood again.
