Just from my perspective:

Since the 19th of July 2011 I’ve been trying to get the Uncapped Hosting Service with MWEB as advertised. Firstly I sent through emails requesting information on the service and never received replies. Then I decided to register online for the service, and still received no feedback for days. Called the call centre and they commented that the online applications don’t work (which is hard to believe of an IT company like MWEB). Then they sent through the application form, which I had to print out! (Again, for an IT company that is shocking.) I then scanned in the documentation send it through to them on email and still after days received no feedback. I had to call through multiple times (and each time spend 20 minutes on the phone) just to get feedback. And then, without it ever being mentioned, they now asked for my ID as well. That after I specifically requested in my email to confirm which documents are required. Thus I cancelled the application. For an IT company this is the worst service I have experienced! And my future recommendation will not be MWEB.

So... which other local service provider can give me a good deal??

Do not understand how they can offer a hosting service with no control panel. Stay far away...

+1 Stay away with a 10ft pole!

Mweb Uncapped hosting takes 2 weeks to do any query that i request at the premium helpdesk. For example I requested an additional 8GB memory for the server 3 weeks ago and they still haven't procured it. Im trying to pinpoint where the problem is but as far as I can tell their technical department takes ages to do anything and our salesperson takes ages to do anything.

I had to wait 1:30hour in their reception 1 day for datacentre access and that was after I made a appointment and went through the correct channels the one day they didn't allow me to go to the datacentre because they dont have one in CPT although I was in the CPT one that morning.

I dont know aboput JHB but Mweb CPT leaves allot to be desired.

Mweb "rep" do you have any input on this shocking service ?

Well as stated in some of my previous posts I really do commend MWeb for bringing services like these to market, but since I know what this hosting infrastructure consists of I wouldn't touch it even if the service and support was supreme :-)

Hi Trident,

Are you after their uncapped hosting or uncapped server deals?

Have a look within my sig for more regarding uncapped hosting deals

Would this include their VPS hosting? :(

I was really set on them as they offered exatcly what I was looking for when it came to price:hardware.

vps hosting is limited to windows 2008 / linux and only 1 IP address - they cant make provision more ip's and the wait and paper work is a nightmare - 12 month contracts....

@server-admins.net *ubuntu linux. By linux I though you mean any linux distro. Ubuntu is usable, but that's still RIDUCULOUS to limit anyone to that. I think I'll give them a call this week and find out the specifics and enquire about this horrible reputation they've created for themselves.

I'm quite new to hosting, could you explain why "only 1 IP address" is a problem. Why would your server need more than 1?

yeah sure, multiple ssl sites or perhaps hosting a mail server in which you may require more than one ip - irrespective, limitations such as those are can cause headaches in the long run

Ah ok, thanks!

BTW Why would no CP be a problem? Surely you could just install one yourself like webmin?

Hey ShadowBandit,

If you have the knowledge and experience of setting up a cp then there arent any issues

Hey,

I recommend you use Openweb.

I use these guys for my uncapped internet. Application was super quick and easy. Also, you get good internet download speeds and great service (they really respond to emails - i emailed them and they replied).

Their website is http://www.openweb.co.za/

The only thing is they don't seem to have an "all inclusive" plan where the ADSL Line + Account is bundled. I pay my DSL line to telkom seperately.

The thread's topic is Mweb's hosting service and not as an ISP.

I'll also recommend Openweb as a Mweb alternative but their quite expensive when you wanna go 4MB uncapped, and I think they use a IS backbone too. Im a happy Mweb customer, never really have any hassles with them.

Bit of a late reply, but we (we as in RIGaming) have two uncapped hosting boxes with Mweb.... amazing service.
