MY problem with the speed of this service seems to be every month when my 3 gig is loaded again. It seems that when its loaded I can only connect with Edge and can download nothing! But it seems if the 3 gig is used up and the speed is down to 384 then it's fine again. Can download on average 20 to 30 gig in the month..
Also if you do have the Huawei usb 367 router, get the firmware update for it, running Update 11.810 on 64 bit and that also sorts out the speed problem...

Maybe just try going into your account settings, and change the network type to "3G only" instead of the default which I think is "3G preferred" that did the trick for me.

To the OP, I only ever use mine for downloading, and I download betwen 40-60gb a month, so I'm getting more than my moneys worth IMO. I also had one or 2 weeks where it was VERY slow, but after some investigation I found out the tower near my house was broken, and after repairs was done my throttled speeds were around 320kbps again.

I think the mistake a lot of people make when getting the MTN uncapped deal is to confuse bits with bytes, MTN advertise the throttled speeds at 356 kilobits per second, and then when people start downloading a torrent for arguments sake, the torrent downloader will show 40-45 KB/s, and people will be like "but where's my other 300KB/s". But there are 8 bits in a byte, and if you do the math you'll see 40-45KB/s comes to between 320-360 kilobits as advertised.

This is soooo true.

Anyway, I get what I paid for. I do allot of online gaming. BF3 with about 80-170 ping after I'm throttled. so no complaints there. I also download allot at the throttled speed.

Make sure your firmware is updated. Like the man says, it can sort out issues.

Those complaining about speed and so on. Maybe do a bit more investigation into why your speeds are low. find out about the towers in your area. Distance from tower can affect your speed greatly. Obstacles in the way like a mountain can also do that. If this is the case, the blame lies on you for not doing your research before signing up for the contract!

+1 MTN FTW

not bits, but kilobits. 360 bits is so negligible we wouldn't even consider it internet, it would be able to run IRC and that's about it.

Yet you understood what I meant:p, simple mistake, forgot to add in "kilo". Fact still remains, people confuse bits with bytes, whether that be "bits vs bytes" or "kilobits vs kilobytes"

I got the Uncapped Lite with the B683 router on 2012-07-23 and I'm VERY happy with it. Downloaded around 7GB to 8GB since then. By the way, where and how can I see exactly how much did I download?

so people that actually think something called uncapped has a limit are honest and those that understand english and think uncapped means "no limit" are dishonest? Well done.

Uncapped and unlimited are two very different things that has been debated on this forum for a long time.

By dishonest if you mean, download everything under the sun even if you dont need/want it then yes but i would term it selfish. It was that mentality that brought shaping and limiting as a necessity for providers.

Hi guys, a friend is not using his mtn uncapped lite as he got ADSL, so he islending it to me for now. I started using it last night at around 9.30 and speds were around 20kb/s on hsdpa (or was it hsupa). This morning at 6.30am speeds were around 60/70kb/s... I'm not sure whether he has used his 3gb yet and my signal strength is good (above 80%).

Just want to know if this is normal? Also how do I find out about the usage, whether he has used the 3gb or not?

Thanks,
Psy

Yip I also saw mine spike to 60-70KB/s, its unusual yes, normally never goes over 40KB/s while throttled, but 70KB's is also a way to slow for the unthrottled speeds which are normally around 700-900 KB/s

alSo how can I check how much data has been used this month on the sim?

Can't help you there, I use mine for downloads only, so if I start a couple of downloads the 3GB goes fast, I normally finish mine on the same day, and when the speeds drop, thats when I know I've used it up haha

Edit: but I think you phone their data call centre, and just give the sim's number I'll they'll give you the overall usage for the month

Why is it rape

How can you say they rape the system?..uncaped means exactly that uncaped!!. This happens because SA is so far behind in technology, elswere in the world, even Nigeria is much cheaper and in most cases unlimited...you only pay for speed.

Uncapped is not "download as much as you want". It's so you don't have to worry about a cap. Even the first world are moving in on heavy downloaders and I read somewhere that some ISPs are considering caps again.
