Don't skip Vista, says Microsoft

Chief among these, she said, was that by leapfrogging Vista, users may find themselves with applications that are discontinued on XP but still not available for Windows 7.

...so just stay with XP then?
i worked for 2 major co.'s in the past year, both with huge IT depts and they couldn't be bothered with vista, all new machines are simply downgraded before being handed down to staff.

So they can double up on sales by selling vista and win7

If there is software that will not survive the XP to Win7 jump, how does going via Vista help the consumer? All it means is that I buy an extra OS along the way.

I think i'm going to listen to them....they won't lie to us....

That is EXACTLY what I am going to do! :D And if Win 7 is too expensive I might just skip that as well! :p Gavriella Schuster can kiss my....

If the programs that work in XP will not work in 7, fine. If they will not work in Vista either, then what is the point in "not skipping Vista"? Making the move to Vista will just serve to bring the point at which your software becomes "obsolete" closer, instead of giving you a year or so more use, in which time the program could have an update released which allows it to work with 7...

Milk the cow dry I always say... Or someone said it once...

Great advice! Thank you MS! I'll go and buy Vista straight away. I've been waiting for Windows 7, but this advice has changed my mind!

There's no logic in her statement. So we must buy Vista now to see if our XP apps work and then later buy Windows 7?

I think I'll just upgrade to UBUNTU....there are less quirky upgrade rules there. ;-)

Please skip Vista. Your apps don't work and the irritating system alerts prevent you from getting anything done, the only way to run an app is to put yourself into "severe risk" mode by turniing than darn "feature" off and just you try install a firewall that works (perfect on XP) all hell breaks loose.

Please skip Vista. Please skip it as far across the water as possible so that it drowns in the deepest part of the pond possible.
