This is not a good working environment.

You have 3 options here.

1. Take a break, take leave (you probably should do this anyway)
2. Sit down with the person highest up the tree you can, and have a chat about why and how you feel you are being treated differently.
3. And finally, take this personally, it might be time for you to start looking elsewhere. Time to freshen up that CV.

If what you describe is even remotely true, your working environment is being made unpleasant for some reason. Ask yourself why would that be?

I think you miss the point.

OP could be a nobody minion as well in the eyes of his superiors. (Please note, this is not what I think). You get reprimanded or put on a leash by your superiors, for better or worse, and your fellow minions tell you not to take it personally, they more than happy to run around with a leash around their neck and yet tell others what they should or should not take personally, yet they the least qualified to do it.

It's annoying.

Quick to have a f***king opinion, but when the rubber meets the road, they're chilling on the sidelines.

Try switching context in a conversation, it's like moving a glacier.
 
Sounds like there's more to it than just an emotionally triggered arbitrary exchange of words. The overall work environment seems pretty toxic. Probably an overreaction, but without knowing things like how market related your salary is, room for growth, etc I'd seriously considering working elsewhere. But don't take it personally :)

I've only ever worked with Indian and Filipinos.
Personally I enjoy working with them, even though I do sometimes want to pull my hair out, because they are not incompetent and they try really hard even though they were brought up in a system that taught them not to think, or function outside of the box. Mostly they have great attitudes as well. I have also worked with some entitled bunch, usually from the CBD's and upper middle class families and other from extremely poor areas lacking a bit of manners, but most are very humble and eager to learn. If I had the choice, I will rather work with and employ good Filipinos than South Africans.

While I'm inclined to give OP the benefit of the doubt, given their knowledge and guidance on other sub forums, I've also worked with some brilliant asshats that absolutely did damage with their attitudes etc.

As to the question, if someone starts with "Don't take it personally, but.." I like to ask them, if what they are about to say adds value, or if it will de-synergise the holistic organism that we've built from greenfield status. If not, lets circle back, and put a pin in it for now to have a offline breakout session or a huddle at a future point in time.

It depends on the context.

Online/Social Media etc: I don't give 2 hoots what you think.

In Person/WA/Text - Stranger: I would be a bit reactive and wonder what gives them the right, possibly answer back.

In Person/WA/Text - Friend: I would probably take it to heart since as my friend they're probably trying to tell me something constructive. Even if its going to hurt.

It might be that his colleagues are giving false accounts of incidents. Or just spreading rumours / taking his words out of context. If I was the OP I would take care of what he discusses with his colleagues, that includes the ones he confides in.

My favourite feature of Madeira is how we borrow billions from the EU and then the dirty continentals have to pay for it.
