Don't use Telkom

Luckily I have had no issues with them Canceling my landline, ADSL and Fixed LTE.

I am still with them for mobile, I have a package for R299. 15GB soft cap (1.5mbps after 15GB but it is hilariously easy to get around the speed limit) + unlimited calls and texts..

Rather the devil you know. I have canceled many a service with them and had my share of no issues and issues. Currently sitting with a canceled line that they kept billing and even handed over. Not the end of the world as I have now sent the relevant proof to the 3rd set of legal idiots. Part and parcel.

But their fibre is hands down the best in my area. So many issues on frotfoot etc, VS none on the openserve endpoints. Would switch to them in a hearbeat if frotfoot keeled over, died and somehow donated their monopoly lines in the ground to telkom.

Same with an "MTN" phone contract.

Anyway, I remember my excellent time with Telkom's billing department. I had to work through their outsourced BPO company as well.

Lots of fun to be had.

Then, if you don't pay they slapped you with a R200 penalty.
My last experience with MTN was I got an LTE router. My colleague stayed outside the LTE zone by like metres. So I asked if he could borrow mine to test, before he orders. They asked what my number was and 5 minutes later, your corporate contract got cancelled. I seriously went WTF. Was told to return the sim and router to them which I did, took a photo of returning it with the agent too. All cancelled.

I'm with Telkom. Never any major issue with them for about 30 years. Use them for cellphones too, they work well.

I am on a month to month and use prepaid for cellular.

Had hellish issues with Vodacom and MTN, wont ever bother. Cringed when work went MTN, but that didnt last long.

I have had zero connectivity issues with Telkom either on fixed line or LTE.

I cancelled the landline on 15 Aug, cutoff date was 30 Sept. the last billing period was 24 Sep - 23 Oct, phoned them why you charge the period I won't have service, they said it would be fixed when I received the "final invoice". after I received the "final invoice". it remained the same and plus interests. try to contact them, not a single channel you can contact them including whatsapp and store. put on to "call me back" in store, after 2 hours, a lady phoned me and heard my story and then hanged up and promised she would phone me back few mins later due to system error, then never call me back again.

the only way you can contact them to fix their remain problems ==>
1) to be a telkom customer again (telkom mobile / landline). ==> I won't do that, I am not stupid.
2) you have a friend is still using telkom. ==> extincted, I am the last survivor. :p

you have to ask yourself, today if you still want to start any telkom service, are you too stupid? for someone who designs a platform which you can't find the information you want, hiding behind and don't want to talk to you when you have a problem, and they make it nearly impossible to cancel the service from them.

so why you still want to start? are you really stupid? think twice.

Best is to go to a store when signing up for anything so that you can go back there daily and complain to a real person, who will likely do everything they can to get you to stop yapping in their ear every day.

This sounds like a post from 10 years ago.

they never changed.

Yes and no......

They are still in the overall sense crap in CRM on the international front, but not to their local peers specifically.

Telkom has vastly improved their CRM which is vastly different from the mid 2000's -2017 analogue servies let say......... It was hell dealing with between the 10210/10215/10217 numbers et.al that's granted.

I have a indirect data line service though Axxess, and Telkom has never set a foot wrong in years. The subscription numbers show that Telkom is growing very rapidly in mobile data segment. They are state funded and controlled without but without monopoly in the mobile space and out-pacing the previously heavy hitters (Vodacom/MTN/Cell-C) in the mobile data arena, network, pricing etc.

I am pretty much certain that a lot of people here still have this grim pre-2017 view of a lethargic behemoth bureaucratic entity which is Telkom, guided solely by previous experiences, but the country does not share that view. I was at a major retail mall yesterday and the Telkom shop was packed. Even from a business case perspective a company that makes constant profit is good in my eyes.

To have a perpetual cynical thinking of a large company like Telkom, will obviously lead you to bias's. Today I have had more issues with Axxess/Afrihost as intermediaries than Telkom itself.

This is the facts, companies go various stages of acceptable performance standards with different management and systems, look at Vodacom which used to be the champion, its now in the pits.

I really think there is a cognitive psychological impairment in all of this, it's best to evaluate these things from facts and not emotional responses from a decade ago.

did you get a pro-rata bill for your last?
if not, does you contract say your cancellation period is in relation to your billing period which you've set up? this as far as I know you can change. Which means you could have asked for your termination to be after your next bill 24 Aug - 23 Sep?

no contract, just a normal landline cancellation.

logged to consumer ombudsman on friday already, 1 hour later, telkom sent me the email and logged to resolve the dispute asap.
let see what's going on. ;)

said that already, you don't need to tell me how good they are now.

I actually see they are just a piece of sht, that is what I experienced currently. you may say other companies are the same, but when I compare for those, telkom is still the worst. got it?

The question is would you have experienced the same results if you were with Rain or Vodacom. Chances are most likely.

You say that you know that Telkom is good, you are convinced of that fact, however, in the same breath say they are "piece of ****" when compared to the others, and insist again that when compared to others they are "the worst".

Which others have you compared the service request with in a short-space of time? Vodacom, MTN, Rain? Let's compare apples to apples

the answer is ==> no

where I said telkom is good? I said don't tell me how good telkom is.

last month, I ordered the mtn diamond pack for R439 / month. it took 3 days for delivery and activation. I can use data anywhere, compare to telkom, only "lines" it is already R629 / month (excluding data). rain? I don't have, but some of my friends are using it without any problem. and I also have a friend cancelled their service last week also didn't experience anything I did. quick and simple.

are you working @hellkom?

Update:

last week consumer ombudsman transferred the case to national consumer commission (NCC), then this week monday, telkom contacted me they will refund me fully. 2 days later, still no response.

wait until next week and see what's going on. :(

Never in my life would I use Telkom again. Not for mobile or adsl/fibre etc.

That is supporting the devil

I use Telkom for fiber. The trick is to know when your contract ends and get proof of cancellation a month before from a call centre agent with a ref no.
