Dota 2

I have to agree, when you first start out, it is better to play a more noob friendly hero, it gives you more time to focus on learning other game mechanics. I would also suggest spending time reading some guides, you will find a lot of guides on http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guides and then you can also read this guide http://www.purgegamers.com/welcome-to-dota-you-suck.

Support is the easier hero role to learn, you do not have the pressure to get as most last hits as possible. That I found is one of the harder aspects of the game, getting decent farm under harassment.

But be prepared, soon DOTA would have taken over your life and other games will not be so enjoyable as DOTA.

Japster - I already consume loads of free time with CS:GO.
My job does not allow more so I don't think Dota will get in the way.
For me it's more of a time waster in between CS:GO sessions.

I've recently learnt how to "mute" annoying players, so doesn't matter how horribly I'm playing,so long as I'm having fun I couldn't care what others are thinking, we all have our off days, some just more than others.

I always maintain that if you are a SERIOUS dota player you should go play RANKED/LEAGUE and leave the pubs to us n00bs that only play for fun,****s and giggles.

:erm:

This is much deeper than I could have imagined.
Dota is complicated. When I say it has a steep learning curve I'm not kidding. However things like jungling and rune mechanics can wait until you feel ready to tackle them. Those are aspects of the game that won't ruin your fun but will just give you an edge if you want to hold your own against more experienced players.

EDIT: Also +1 on the Limited Heroes mode. Play that game mode in the beginning. Most of the guys in that mode are new players. Having said that the community is somewhat toxic so be prepared to at some point be teamed with people who will be verbally abusive. I simply mute them (you do this by going to the team scoreboard button in the top left corner menu bar and clicking the speaker icon/button next to that player's name).

Ultimately I think it is best to find yourself some mates to play as a group of 5. That way you won't get sworn at for playing badly but instead your mates will help and offer advice or just laugh with you when you get stomped (like most of us MyBB guys do most days).

I would prefer to play ranked games, but the waiting time on the SA servers is just to long for a ranked match. Yes I can go play on the EU West but if you want to play ranked, it would be better to play with the lowest ping possible. So for now I just play pub games.

Exactly the same for me. I play on LTE so ping already is not great.

But every night I search for 30 minutes on Ranked SA, but get nothing... Very frustrating!

I Just started to play dota this weekend and man it so much fun.

Is there a place or something where you can pick to only play with new players or lower tier players?
It not nice if you play and some of your team mates rage as you not doing or playing like they want you to play.

Or should i gest ignore them and play on till i get better and know what is all required of me in team fight and stuff?

Since a few weeks ago I've completely turned voice chat off and my DotA experience has become 540% more enjoyable.

For some reason the greatest idiots are also the loudest on the voice system. I'm faced with one of the following when voice chat is enabled:
1) An afrikaans guy whose experience with the english language involves no more than what he scraped through with in high school. Threats to "frow me wiff a stone amongst the eyes" are met with haughty derision from my side.
2) Teenagers. Good lord there are thousands of angsty, rebellious teenagers.
3) The religious nutter who moans about my "blaspheming". This is often accompanied by point (1).
4) The Russians. Everytime I play with a Russian I become a terrible anti-Russian racist.

Why do so many afrikaans kids play?
I noticed this in CS:GO as well.
Not complaining, just asking.

This is the main reason I avoid SA servers. Always get someone with a big mouth and not much dota knowledge.

You kinda get that on all servers. Americans are by far the worst I have experienced.

I like voice, but then I only play with people from here and we all get along well.

Turn voice chat off. If they want to argue, they can type, then I'll just mute them again after trolling them a bit.

Being anti-Russian in Dota is more ethnicism than racism... I'd almost call it common sense though considering the horrible experiences I've had with Russians. :(

EDIT: I still think that the only reliable way to get away from people behaving like asses over voice chat is to play with people you know to be good people. It is for this reason that I never solo anymore. I always looks for some MyBB guys to play with or some of the other pleasant folks I've managed to add to my friend's list.

Just a reminder that most of here use our own TeamSpeak server. So if you want to find a game or chat to the guys here... install Teamspeak and then set your Teamspeak server to: speakdota.co.za (Deadmanza, dont forget to include this address in the opening post :D)

If there is no one on, no worries, just idle, people will join you eventually :) The guys are very help and accommodating.

I have a meeting until 9pm tonight so unfortunately will not be joining :(

:D :D :D

Anyone keen to try this?

All you need to stop that push is 2-3 heroes with strong anti push and the push strat is over. Stall the game out so they can't push, since they pushing as 5 they don't gain XP. Get other heroes to farm other lanes for 10 minutes then stomp them in fights. GG push strat over.

Baddie strats only works against baddie players.
