I think your mate is talking poo. I had one of those and I blew the engine but not because of some common fault but rather because a mechanic forgot to tighten the hose clamp on the radiator hose after a service....and it cost a whack load more than R30k.
I know of many owners and have not heard of this so called tendency.

The 250 DTeq is as powerful as the older 300 non-DTeq variants from what I was told.Anyone got experience with the non d-teq Isuzu models? I drove the KB250LE D-Teq today and it was very nice, not sluggish at all. I would like to know how this stacks up against the non d-teq 250 LE and 300 LX models.
