Double Cab Advice

Anyone got experience with the non d-teq Isuzu models? I drove the KB250LE D-Teq today and it was very nice, not sluggish at all. I would like to know how this stacks up against the non d-teq 250 LE and 300 LX models.

I think your mate is talking poo. I had one of those and I blew the engine but not because of some common fault but rather because a mechanic forgot to tighten the hose clamp on the radiator hose after a service....and it cost a whack load more than R30k.

I know of many owners and have not heard of this so called tendency.

He works for Nissan so why would he unnecessarily bad mouth Nissan. He phoned around to a couple of the dealerships and that's the feedback he got.

Yes the Toyota is the higher risk option (Because its the best) because they share some taxi spares. Chassis engine etc.
Its popular because of
1. Resale value
2.Cheap and great backup of parts
3. Nearly all towns has a Toyota agency, so servicing etc is easy.
4. Its tough
5. Have a look at what the top gear team did to the Hilux. And It still started.

The non D-Teq Isuzu. . Its SLOOOOOOOOW. 130kmph is a milestone.

.
6. drives over the border real easy without papers.
7. some toyota bakkies know where Lesotho is, they drive their themselves.

8. Try fitting a Safari/Hunting kit to the back of one of the new ones and with weight and movement it tears the fittings through the body.
9. Toyota have been at the top for long yes but are getting toppled now by most opposition.

Wife wants a Fortuna but I am poop scared to get her one due to the high risk. I drove her uncles brand new Hilux 3.0 D4D the other day and I was surprisingly not impressed with the power, the ride etc was nice but man it didn't have the grunt I thought it would. Then again I understand its a massive vehicle and it would do very well off road, but I just thought it would have a bit more ooomf. Maybe I left the handbrake on. :p

The 250 DTeq is as powerful as the older 300 non-DTeq variants from what I was told.
I have no experience with the older Isuzu's, but know they are workhorses.

I bought the 300DTeq LX extended cab 3 years ago and I still get a smile on my face every time I climb into that vehicle. I prefer driving it before any of our other cars, it is high off the ground and gives you a sense of security, the power steering is good, drives easier than a car and did I mention it has a easy to use speed control that works like a charm. It gives me just over 10Km to a litre of diesel.
The 250 DTeq should give you between 12 and 13.5Km to a litre of diesel.

From what I understand they started to manufacture the Isuzu DTeq's in the latter part of 2007, you basically have a 2008 model there.
If you can afford it, get the 300 DTeq LX, it is a superb vehicle.
Be reminded the non 4x4, even though it has difflock sits in the sand easily as the vehicle is quite heavy as I discovered when I was in Namibia.
