A REASON GIVEN for the dramatic increase in the number of people buying Apple computers recently is the ability to run Windows on a Mac.

Makes sense to me - PC users often claim there is one must have app that they cant live without but there is no Mac version. This article makes no sense? People are buying Macs so that they can use VMWare?
Wtf?

That said the only time I fire up parallels (another virtual environment) these days is when a relative needs Windows tech support.![]()
I would say many switchers are taking the plunge because you can run windows on the same hardware via bootcamp or VM. They see it as a safety net.Yes, I understand why VMWare is such an awesome tool and what it can be used for. But I seriously doubt VMWare is the reason people are buying Macs!
Macs provide the best of both worlds. OSX provides the stabilty of Unix and the user friendliness of Windows.
Macs are actually pretty cool machines.
What do you mean by productivity? I look at one of my bosses and I know she is more productive now that she has a mac because nothing ever goes wrong with it . . . which in turn means I'm more productive because I'm not having to figure out what she's done to her computer this time. The only reason u would buy a mac for productivity is because u love it, but to use VMWare goes against any hardcore apple users beliefs... apple users use apple software, this is a case of,
Haters Hating Themselves!

Except you cant run OsX on anything other than Mac hardware (legally). But then the same argument can be applied for switching to Linux.
Leopard is a great OS and fortunately all the software I require runs on it natively. However the ability to run a completely different OS along side the native one has to appeal to many.
It makes absolute sense - you see, PC users have no choice, Mac users DO.This article makes no sense? People are buying Macs so that they can use VMWare?

Running MacOS and the great apps that just work better on a mac is exclusive to Mac. DTP and movie editing to mention a couple of NICE things to do on a mac. Sure you can do alot of this on a PC, but just not nearly as well. Some people actually like good hardware that is tried and tested and easier to use. For the geeks, this isn't an issue, but try telling a non-geek that PC is as easy to use and setup as a Mac.Yes, it does appeal to many, just like gaming on Windows appeals to many. The difference, though, is that gaming on Windows is exclusive to Windows, while running VMWare is not exclusive to Mac.
My point, as I have stated in my previous post, is that the reason given in the article is a pretty bad reason for why people are switching to Macs. There are a hundred better reasons why one would want to switch to a Mac.
The article read more like an article about how great VMWare is and not why people are switching to Macs.

I prefer mac but have to use PC cos of the apps I use. now I can use Mac AND PC. The mac for my most common apps - PLUS I get the decent hardware, asthetically pleasing, well designed, etc... and the excellent graphics capability. Its only the gaming fanbois who would not benefit IMO.
Bottom line for me (and many others) is a Mac is just cool to own - looks good in my study and people who see it think "Oooohhh"
Of course mac users also have that choice - as perviously mentioned the reason I had parallels installed is so I could give tech support to some windows users. I also used it to get an idea of what Ubuntu was like and I'm sure plenty of the Fusion users also enjoy playing around with the 500+ virtual appliances available.Actually no, you dont have a choice. See for PC and Linux peeps we run virtual machines to mess around and experiment with things, with Mac your justifying reason is so you have compatibility with real world applications. LMAO!!!
