Does anyone know how to, if it's possible, to downgrade from 4096 to 512k.

Have a client on a 24 month telkom contract and they need to reduce monthly costs.

Thanks.

According to telkom, if you've got a 24 month contract and then downgrade, you are breaking the contract and therefore you have to pay penalty fee's, which are equal to all the months remaining in the contract, plus interest.

Don't ask me where it's written, but I've seen it numerous times on this forum.

If they want to reduce costs, tell them to use a normal 2GB or 3GB ISP package and after that they should use prepaid GB's.

No other way, except to pay ;)

Yeap, if you downgrade, you're going to pay quite a bit so it's almost pointless doing it.

The "CLIENT" should try save money elsewhere rather or if they can do it, just pay Telkom to downgrade but after everything is said and done, I think they should rather just try save money elsewhere.

rofl...
na dont think the contract works that way
. only if you get rid of your adsl line. then u breaking there contract.

if you downgrade you pay penality of R250-R350.

rofl indeed, until you have to pay the real penalty, I've spoken to a lady at a telkom shop who told me the exact same thing, if you're under contract and you either upgrade (which is supposed to be free) or downgrade, you are voiding contract terms and therefore pay the months you have left. ;)

While I was still under contract I did upgrade from 384 to 4096 and did not have to pay any additional costs. I was told initially that should I start with a higher speed and want to downgrade the standard downgrade fee was applicable (R235 IIRC) but it would not have any impact on the contract.

Some people have reported conflicting info from telkom but AFAIK those that have taken it up with telkom have not been charged any penalties.

Yes it is possible although telkom charges a fee. However as 512 is way overpriced it would not be of much benefit - unless they downgrade to 384

Month-to-Month

I just spoke with Telkom on upgrading and downgrading for Month to Month (no contract) and for that it's free to upgrade, but a once off fee for downgrading (R140).

I would guess it would at least be the same for contract (probably slightly higher), but wouldn't think it will be a whole new contract...
