There are people driving fairly new citi golfs that are more unsafe than alot of 15 year old cars.
Look at the Datsun Go! No abs, no airbags. For R90k, pathetic.

I have a 2005 Toyota Tazz. It was 36k last year, sure it'll be even less this year. Best thing I ever bought. It's cheap to maintain, reliable, doesn't use much fuel, and parks easy.
How far do you travel to work and back. Not a lot of R30K cars are all that reliable anymore.
errrrrr,My kids are 3, 7 & 12. We can actually fit in the M-I-L when going shopping.
I've seen fairly good cars for the price. Maybe I could up the budget to R40k. I don't want to finance it.
I will be travelling roughly 50km a day with very little start/stops. And I want something with an aircon.
I'll keep it for 6 months to a year and upgrade to a corsa bakkie.
my personal car is like 22years old.. has its off days.. due to been parked of alot recently.. but very reliable..
I agree on the el cheapo move. My car is 8 years old and I have it for 4 years now and have decided to take it to its grave ever since the dealer offered me el cheapo money for it.
I was in the market of buying the Honda Mobilio about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Had a look and realized our cars are in perfect nick. Why go an make another R 100k debt. I would rather let that saving pocket grow a bit more and drive our current vehicles till their wheels fall off. This driving a new car every 2 - 3 years aint doing it for me no more.
What are you on about?errrrrr,
i10, merc c200, bmw 320, vw jetta etc... are all certified for 5 people.
And by law each person needs their own seatbelt to strap themselves in.
so your i10(or any other 5 seater) with 6 people in is against the law, and you could be fined.
Wise decision, 5 years ago, I got 5 year old Honda (Civic, 150i) for 80K and is still running fine. Just servicing expenses and some minor fixes so far. As per local trend (SA), had I bought a new car back then, by now I would have paid installment of 240K rands (assuming a modest 4K payment per month). Good luck, however, if I was you, I would up the budget to 50K even if it is a Honda.I could save in excess of R8000 per month.
I've been looking around and will probably up my budget to R40k.
We had a look at some cars today and my wife is happy with what she saw.
