I want to set up an oldish PC to use as a kind of download box/Serviio media server.

I want to use Sickbeard + SABNzb and uTorrent, and then Serviio to connect with the TV over LAN.

Should I use Linux or Windows or something else? If Linux, which flavour?

Then, do I need a GFX card? I'm just streaming via Serviio so I don't think I need one but thought I would ask.

Thanks for your help.

I don't get why people want to use DLNA and "Serviio" or whatever the hell that is..

Why not just install OpenElec and go for XBMC, it's a much better media centre than your TV's DLNA.

No I have never used DLNA, but I just know XBMC will murder it...
Connect your Old PC to your TV via HDMI, no need to run serviio servers or dlna.

maybe i'm an idiot, but I just prefer XBMC over everything else out there.

Edit: also, if you wanna run SAB why the hell would you run torrents on top of that? there is no need for that

A media centre like that is not gonna work at the moment. I can't put the PC in my lounge as my WiFi reception downstairs is crap (I have run a LAN cable for the TV to connect) Also, I would then need a GFX card for the PC I think, and with Serviio I don't think I need one.

Sickbeard and SAB work great for recent series but I have found it can't find older series (with free search providers) and also movies which I use torrents for.

I've got dropbox on my downloader PC,with my torrent client and sab monitoring a folder for .torrent or .zip(nzb) files and auto queueing them for download

Old Series I watch streaming using Navi-X on XBMC,got just about everything

got just about everything

and then some more...
Seriously I get lost in NaviX... it's media overload and too much for me to handle :D

I like the 1channel addon more though, it's much easier since it only has series and movie categories.
You can also add the items to your XBMC library, which I find pretty awesome since I like my stuff scraped with covers and artwork in my theme.

@Pooky: buy a R300 3D-Card and plug the LAN cable into your PC instead of the TV

Sweet,new toy to test tonight

I got my netbook linked up to VGA on the TV and use my android devices as XBMC remotes

What a great idea.

OpenELEC.

Does XBMC out of the box with SABNZBd + SickBeard + CouchPotato + Headphones addons.

Also network shares out of the box, nothing to setup.

I installed this, but when I go to addons there is nothing listed. Any idea how to get them installed? It is connected to the internet.
