Download speeds dropping to zero with Mweb - please help

Hi, I've been experiencing really bad download speeds during the past couple of months. I am on a 1mb line with Mweb.

Whenever I'm trying to download any file (docs, pdfs, exes), the download rate randomly falls to zero and proceeds at download speeds of order bytes per second (i.e. less than 1 kB/s). The download speed may suddenly pick back up randomly but usually doesn't. I have started using a download accelerator with which I get the normal speeds of about 70 kB/s.
However, whenever I can't use a download accelerator (e.g. android system updates on my phone), I am stuck with those horrible speeds.

The problem is present regardless of the device (laptop or phone) or whether I use an ethernet cable or wifi.

Please can someone help me?

Have you not heard? MWEB doesn't allow you to download it anymore, they just throttle you based on usage. Sounds like you were over their 10GB a month threshold you naughty boy!

Real Help Section: Grab a trial account from Openweb, Axxess or Afrihost and see if the problem repeats using one of those accounts. If it doesn't do the same, ditch MWEB like everybody else is doing. If you get the same problem, there may be a fault on the line but your traceroute looks normal. Alternatively, check and make sure that your firewall (if you are running one) isn't interfering. Try download a file, check that it is doing a 0KB/s problem then disable your firewall and try again

Lol, I usually average 40-50 gigs monthly and I've only dowloaded 12 gigs since the start of this month. I've already tried disabling and even uninstalling all firewalls. That does not seem to be the issue.

Oh well, I've been with mweb for three years now; if the mweb guys can't help I shall seriously consider switching to Afrihost.

Just sent off my cancellation form. I have about 10 devices connected to my router, even without torrents etc, it's almost impossible to use less than 100GB pm.

Just an update. The Mweb people managed to fix the problem. Getting pretty constant download speeds of 100 kBps for now. Hope it lasts.

I [-]don't think[/-] know that being within or outside of "acceptable parameters" does not warrant[-]s[/-] a user being unable to open any documents/files, so mentioning this is completely irrelevant.
