I have been using Downstorm for a couple years now for my torrent needs and it has been working really well.

I recently stumbled upon Tunnelbear. I downloaded and installed it, turned it on for US and was able to logon to the US Broadcast sites like Fox, CBS, ABC etc. and then turn the UK option on and go to Channel 4. Using all options I was able to watch tv episodes online without any issues.

My question is this:

Would it be a better option to cancel my R49 a month Downstorm account and pay $4.99 a month for a Giant Tunnelbear account to download torrents straight to my PC and watch tv online etc?

I'd really appreciate any advice on the matter
TIA

I would use both for a month and see which one gave me better service.

Choice, quality, availability, speeds ,ease of use etc....

I agree with Gforce. One never knows if the time you were able to receive the services you got was a fluke, or if they genuinely put it out 24/7. Seacom is awesome when its working, sad panda for days when its not.

Thanks guys that is great advice. I will try both for a month. I was going to try the whole news server a try but it seems pretty complex.

Yeah I've tried to read through guides on it. Also seems a bit more expensive than going the torrent route. Also, is it possible to find old stuff through News Server? For example, I'm currently getting The Pretender through torrent. An old tv show I really enjoyed, not too sure if stuff like this is available through news servers.

Depending on which premium newsserver you signup with, you can download content at FULLSPEED from 1500+- days ago :D. While torrents have a place for rare stuff, NG are the future and you save tons of bandwidth on uploading.

It is actually cheaper in the long run imo, i am not saying DS is a bad service but it will slowly die off as more move towards NG.

If you need assistance, read the thread above / below regarding torrents vs newsgroups and if you still stuck, query here and one of us will help ye out :)

Sickbeard as mentioned above is an automatic TV retrieval program, if you want the Pretender, it can search for all episodes in quality you specify. Once it finds it, it will send an .nzb file to SABNZBD (like a torrent file) and it will start the download. If you want to see if the Pretender is available, just goto www.binsearch.net and under max age of post, choose 11days and search.

Theres also automation for movies, music and soon to be released games software aswell ;-) oh and an anime one too (Anime branch of Sickbeard) :D.

If you want to try Usenet and your linespeed doesn't exceed 1MB then signup for XS Usenet its completely free and worth a try ;-)

@Yuu Thanks so much for all the advice. I am definitely thinking of cancelling my Downstorm now too.

Did they manage to release Downstorm 2? I had enough of the "it's coming" crap and left (also the Ajax/Javascript was or is cpu intensive). Currently using put.io, but everything is Apple centered. Looking for alternatives.

It's not really the same thing. The one is downloading the other is streaming. Have both if you like.
