Our apologies again for today's forum downtime. The problem seems to have been related to a security feature which caused database shutdown. Hetzner is working on a solution to prevent this from happening in future

sorry sorry, was me - didn't mean to push the red button, won't happen again....

Thanks... it's happened a few times the last two days  But I've worked with Hetzner a lot in the past and they know their stuff.

Does anyone know more about power outage on Verizon datacntre in cpt yesterday
A power disruption on the Verizon Business Cape Town network, which delivers the upstream internet connectivity to Hetzner’s Data Centres, caused Hetzner services on location to be inaccessible from approximately 10h00 to 13h20 on Saturday, 1 November '08.

Eskom power disruptions were anticipated on Saturday as the City had planned scheduled maintenance. Our customers were informed of this maintenance via our Network Alert system on 24 October.

Verizon's standby generator power was expected to carry the load as the maintenance was to affect their electricity supply. Regrettably, Verizon's generator failed, which resulted in the core network shutting down.

Hetzner's power backup systems continued to maintain our electrical load throughout the interruptions, with our servers experiencing no downtime.

However, as Verizon's network was impacted by their generator failure, our core uplink was down. This means that despite our servers experiencing no downtime, they would not have been accessible to the outside world throughout Verizon’s downtime. When power was restored to Verizon's core network, access to Hetzner's Cape Town services was automatically restored.
