Dragon Age: Inquisition

It appears to be based on both proximity and the default attack instructions. I find if they close enough they will attack automatically with or without you.
If you run ahead and activate your own attack mode they will auto battle.

I have not changed from the defaults and those were set as attack my target, so they begin attacking as soon as you target.

You can then obviously go work on their defaults, I do need to make some adjustments. Probably default my warrior to use something like taunt or guard to get allt eh strongest okes here way, the mage and varick are quite fine, but still at low levels so the default of just attack still works.

If its anything like the last games then probably around lvl10 or so it becomes more important to tune the defaults to better suite the skills of the character, by that time you already have them on a defined skills path so want to take advantage of the best or most useful of those abilities.

Well, you can set the AI to defense mode, they will only attack once you launch an attack.

However, you are destined to die if you are in close proximity of bears or a Druffalo. Geez, they take forever to die.

I still can't craft a decent weapon. I hit level 7 last night and still struggling to kill some enemies in the Hinterlands.

A bit off topic but this was a good read: http://tinyurl.com/olzcyec

I don't go into the Hinterlands unless it's story related. Will do the side missions there whenever I feel in the mood for it...

That's not to say I'm going to crack it? Watching many many reviews... Then I will decide if it's worth my money (and time)

Angry Joe...... I don't think I have played a single game that he has given his badass seal of approval, where I have thought it was undeserving of the positive review.
I have also not found a game that he reviews badly, that I thought was actually a good game.

Whether that is a sign that we have similar tastes in games. Or that he is just really well balanced and objective in his reviews, I cannot really say, but it works for me.

Lvl 17 and 60 hours gone, and there is still no end in sight with this game. Just loving it.

I got my copy yesterday and played a bit last night and the couple mins i played i really enjoyed it. looks like an amazing game! just a quick question for the veterans do i have to maintain my companions gear? or can i leave it up to the AI?

AI actually does very little on thier own outside of battle, and by that I mean they follow you. You need to grow thier skills, upgrade or replace weapons and armor.

Two questions for you guys

Does this game make use of directx 11.2? I've sear have with no luck as of yet

When you guys fight, do you hold down R to auto and just spam your numbers? I'm finding pressing like a zillion keys at once a bit annoying :o

I am not sure about the DirectX question, Battlefield 4 which uses the same engine supports it and Mantle, so I believe that DA will as well, but you will have to have someone else confirm that :P

The second question I can answer, you hold down R or left click to auto attack, or you can click for every attack(this works fine for warrior, but I wont suggest it for a mage or rogue). I have the powers I use most mapped to the first few ability slots so that they are easy to use, for example the Inquisitor's focus ability sits way at the end for me. Unfortunately the auto attack is not like it used to be, right click and let go, but combat is more fluid now as it switches to the next enemy in sight without you worrying about clicking on the next enemy or using tab to switch targets (Which I am not used to at all). You can still switch with tab though.

I find myself not using tactical a lot, but if you use it, auto attack is like it was in origins and DA2, it continues by itself and your character follows the enemy you told it to attack.
