Dragon Age Veil Guard

Personally have not played the game, how come it has such low user scores on metacritic 3.8 but critics/journos scored it 82. Also went to check steam charts, game peaked @89K , i mean Black myth wukong, a new IP from an unknown studio peaked at 2.5mill, am I missing something here? Been willing to try a dragon age game but not so sure about this one, should i play the older games first?

Few things:

1.) User scores on MC are not vetted. Anyone can vote, and no proof of ownership is required. AS there was quite a bit of drama surrounding the release it's fair to say most of the user scores on MC are just angry people review bombing.
2.) Black Myth was basically a cultural zeitgeist for the release period. Comparing any game to Black Myth's launch stats is going to be an unfortunate comparison. With that being said, most sales for Wukon came from China.

Yup. Most reviews on steam for example are positive.

Because metacritic can be review bombed easily. On steam, xbox and playstation were you actually need to own the game to post a review it has positive reviews.
Black Myth is based a chinese legend so has a big chinese market.
Depends what type of rpg you are looking for . All 4 are different.

Hello no.

From what I can tell, all the people that played the old ones hate this one and most of the people that love VG haven't played the old ones.
I played all the dragon age games and completed multiple runs of each. Don't hate this game at all.
Its not as good as oirgins or DA 2 but compares decently to inquisition.

Ok so I started Veilguard.

Holy crap, my first hour with the game was just me trying to figure out how to use arrow keys for movement (no problem using wasd but I've just always preferred arrow keys, I'm weird like that). You can't rebind arrow keys for anything so I had to download AutoHotKey and create a script just so I can use arrow keys in the game. Now the game works fine, I can use arrow keys, happy days!

Played for a little bit and the game is awesome so far. Looks good, sounds good, combat is great and the game still feels very much like Dragon Age. Running the game with ultra settings with no issues.

Just unbelievable that in 2024 there are still AAA games that don't allow you to use keyboard keys you want to use and that some keys can't be rebound.
I see this was fixed in patch 3. Can finally use arrow keys without this script :)

So far I've finished Lucanis, Davrin and Bellara's stories. All been really great and lots of fun.

Bellara's is the best in terms of writing imo.

Now just focusing on side and companion quests because I think I'm near the end of the main story. Not sure. Also trying my best to find every collectible/codex entry. Not easy because some can only be bought and I never have enough money or recources to upgrade shops to unlock new stock. Not a fan of that tbh.

The dragon in the Crossroads though ☹️

Been trying to kill that bastard for days now. Still trying. Guess I'll try again much later.

Codex now at 80% complete and I only have a handful of side quests left to do.

Finished Neve, Taash and Harding's personal quests, just Emmrich left to complete.

I stand by my earlier thoughts that Neve is the most boring Bioware character ever with the most boring and forgettable story and final boss fight. It's almost like she was a last minute creation and they didn't have time or ideas what to do with her.

Harding's story was ok and Taash's was good. Or at least the dragon parts were. It's a shame that her character and story is somewhat ruined by the non-binary crap. She would have been great without all of that.

Sorry, I meant "it". :(

Btw I haven't seen that particular conversation in my game yet. Don't know where, when or if that will happen.

Started the endgame. Epic stuff.

Also didn't expect the Sixth Sense style plot twist coming. Really cool and sad at the same time. :(

I realized for the first time that some time ago I failed 3 quest which is annoying. Mainly quests that had to be completed before the chaos in Minrathos and Weisshaupt. Oh well.

Well you guys, I finally finished Veilguard.

I think I got the best possible ending. Only 1 companion died (because someone has to)...

RIP Harding :(

... and Solas

abandoned his plans and became a good guy again lol.

Rook and Neve finally kissed (thought she dumped me tbh) and everyone lived happily ever after. :p

Overall an incredible game and one of Bioware's best (just leave the sjw lecturing out next time but honestly it wasn't nearly as bad as social media said. Not even close). The endgame was epic but the final fight was rather disappointing and strangely very easy. Only used a health potion once and never asked my healer to heal me. Also a very James Bond-sounding credits song lol. The entire soundtrack throughout the game was brilliant imo.

Really looking forward to see what's next for Dragon Age. There is a little post-credits scene that hints at a new threat. And after playing Veilguard I have zero worries about the next Mass Effect too. It should be something spectacular. I hope.

Oh and in the end my codex was only 86% complete. Good enough for me, not going back to look for the rest.

Haven't got past the character creator yet, can't make up my mind on my build yet 😆 I haven't had much time yet though honestly but maybe on Sunday will have enough time to get into it.

The plan for me was to finally give it a go during the holidays, but for now it'll have to wait. Indiana Jones is getting a better reception and it's "free"...
