Drill right one

I've had one of these for years (Black Friday special at Builders)

It's a thing of beauty
Used it to drill at least 20 holes in the wall on Saturday. Battery was not fully charged when I started. I generally keep the battery in for months. Had to drill a few more holes on Tuesday. Finally swapped out the battery. This is my go to "drill". I have a Bosch cordless as well. Just prefer the Dewalt.

Edit: This is for light drilling work. I have gone through the double cavity wall with this drill set on the hammer function. That was lazy on my side. As it is convenient at the time. As @AfricanTech stated, if you doing serious stuff, you have to break out an Rotary SDS drill. My corded Makita Rotary Drill is a beast.

Secondly, a good set of masonry bits. I found that the Adenorff, are the ones holding up the best so far. I bought SDS bits as I can used it my cordless drill as a normal bit and in the SDS system:

It is only R130 a set, but it is better than all the other bits I tried.

Since you're invested in B&D ecosystem consider the cordless multievo and then get the hammer drill head. I use that to drill the odd masonry holes from time to time.

I do want to mention, I borrowed a friend's Makita rotary hammer for a project and that thing is a beast. Rotary hammer drills are pretty expensive, but my gosh do they make drilling easy.

I've got that same one, it's been a pleasure to work with.

It's like a hot knife through butter.

Tbh, once you've used a rotary drill with masonry/hard brick/concrete you don't ever want to use any other type for that application - the moment my cordless hits something that feels 'hard' I switch to the SDS.

I have a corded SDS drill (Skil I think) that I bought more than 15 years ago when I needed to drill many holes into vibracrete posts (a pot plant and trellis hanging exercise mandated by the Head Office) - never been sorry that I bought it - it's done yeoman service over the years and still going strong.

Chamberlains have this guy on special...

I highly recommend looking at Einhell cordless tools. I have several now and will be selling my Makita ones. Cheap, well designed, large batteries, and amazing build quality!

I feel the same about Einhell tools and Takealot had quite few specials lately with chargers and 2.5 Ah battery included. Normally, they sell the tools without batteries. I show this as an example:

EINHELL - Impact Drill Cordless 13mm 48Nm is now R1265, I bought it a few weeks ago for R799.

That battery capacity is better than most other makes, and the drill has a bigger chuck and more power at 48Nm.

and

EINHELL - Grinder Angle Cordless Kit is now R1045 it was then R899, also with battery and charger.

I also bought the cordless vacuum.

Here is the price variation of the angle grinder.

Precisely! I wanted to get everything I needed before telling the world about the 'special'.

Their glue gun is insanely good too.

Is this black and decker hammer drill any good? I already have the battery pack

I got this one yonks ago from builders on sale when I was putting up blinds. I've got other drills - corded and battery - but none of them are as capable as the Skil when it comes to drilling into walls and lintels.

Hey! That looks just like mine!

(runs to toolbox to check that it's there)

I just need a drill for odd masonry drilling a few times a year. So not worth spending too much money.

Thanks - I recalled a Builders video stating SDS drills faster than Impact drills for masonry. Just couldn't recall the term.
If that's the case, just buy an ordinary mains drill. Just imho. Sure a battery drill is nice, but I'd just buy a semi decent battery drill and then a power drill for masonry

If someone is interested in an additional battery for the Einhell series, here is a good acquisition.

Buy the Einhell jigsaw with battery and charger for R 899, whereas the battery alone with charger costs R975. You actually get the jigsaw for R76.
Quite right. I have so many Einhell tools and batteries now. Angle grinder, jigsaw, drill, vacuum, garden blower, glue gun... And then one of the 4Ah batteries for when needing extra beef.

Yet they are largely manufactured in China? I understand that this is reputedly under German supervision though, but I had some really poor quality tooling from them about 18 years ago. I remember thinking that it was a Chinese company that took a German name for quality purposes.I am not sure, but it was around the time of my divorce, it may be a glue gun?!
Good to know that they have improved.
