Drivers Licence Renewal

Hi everyone
I have 2 questions about drivers licence renewals:

1) I recently lost my wallet (containing both ID card and drivers licence) in a taxi. Taxi driver has disappeared in the wind. I now need to apply for a new drivers licence card but see very clearly on the NATIS website that you need to bring your SA ID with you. Does anyone know if they would accept a valid South African passport as identification instead?

2) Do I specifically need a police affidavit explaining my lost ID or can I get an affidavit from a commissioner of oathes (a lawyer) stating the same?

many thanks

I believe passport will work, but googling for e.g. centurion highveld dltc contact gives me 012 999 5200
It's probably easiest to just call them and ask.

For those who have recently renewed their driver's license, how long did it take?

I am between four and six weeks now. It is noted that it can take up to six weeks. However, when I checked Natis online for the status of my card, the status change is almost 2 weeks after I went to renew it. Could this mean that I could wait up to 8 weeks?

Did the eye testing etc 6 Jan 2025, card was ready for pickup 23 Jan 2025 (received sms)

That's not the issue, it's the length of time it takes to get it :)
I beg to differ. The whole thing has always been a ballache to me.
At the Milnerton office, I had to wait in a queue (right out of the building) just to do their stupid test. I would have to set aside at least 3 hours of my day for this task. Having a pre-approval from an optician meant nothing to them.

Oh I know, I wasted 3 hours last week as well, they only had one working eye test machine, even though the majority of people had the optician tests. They still didn't open the other offices to allow quicker processing, then at the tills there was only 3 cashiers with people fighting with them which took even more time.
Booking online was irrelevant as even with a booking I was still only seen to an hour after my booking, yet the silliest thing is, if they just allowed us to pay while booking it would negate a vast issue, as there is an option it's just greyed out. It's like when you book for the learners, you need to go into pay, you don't need to present any documents, you just need to pay.
