Insurance will not pay if an unlicenced driver is driving. If your licence has expired, you are unlicenced.I know you have to go online and register - but it's a mission and there are NEVER slots available.
I'm now expired and risk a fine - but was wondering if insurance pay out if anything happens ?
No, you're still licensed - and you're still covered.Insurance will not pay if an unlicenced driver is driving. If your licence has expired, you are unlicenced.
It really is a stupid, 3rd world rule... If you cannot walk in anymore, and the online system isn't workingInsurance will not pay if an unlicenced driver is driving. If your licence has expired, you are unlicenced.

I stand corrected.No, you're still licensed - and you're still covered.
Concerns have been raised that insurance companies could reject claims over expired drivers licenses.
National Chair of the Justice Project SA, Howard Dembovsky, says the driving license document is valid from the time you pass a driving test until such a time it is suspended or canceled.
Dembovsky says it is the driving license card that expires every 5 years and requires renewal.
Any insurance company that were to try and repudiate a claim on the basis that your drivers license card has expired could find themselves in hot water when the matter goes to court
— Howard Dembovsky, founder and Chairperson of JPSAThe fact is your driving license never expires but your driving license card expires. It is a requirement of the law that you carry it with you whilst driving
— Howard Dembovsky, founder and chairperson of JPSAA person who's license card had expired is not unlicensed, that person is still licensed. They are just incapable of producing their driving license on demand to a traffic officer.

Did mine today. Quick and easy at Bellville, compared to an always busy Durbanville queue scenario it seems.
Wouldn't take the risk driving with an expired license due to the inconsistent insurance industry.

If by SMS, do they send to the number on the online application, or to the one registered on the AARTO account?
