I'm concerned about how badly people drive in SA

KEEP LEFT PASS RIGHT (FFS) - dont sit in whatever lane you want at whatever speed you want AND LOOK in your FLIPPING mirror to see what CAOS you are causing behind you!!! And when you are in the far right hand lane at 80 and i cut in front of you - dont you DARE flap your hands at me - YOU are in the WRONG LANE at the WRONG SPEED!!! WAKE UP! or get off the road!!!

Anger management classes.

Although I might need some too, traffic was backed up near work today and while sitting in a mile long bumper-to-bumper a farking taxi came past everyone by gunning it in the oncoming lane and then cutting back before traffic at the last moment.

Reminded me of Frogger & I wished he'd get his sequence wrong and go splat!

Yip, also get this everyday, you'll get some guy in Wabenzi driving at 60km in a 120km zone in the fast lane and will not move over.
You can see why when we have a clerk in our office who has failed his driving test 7 times as of September!

driving has become a chore. thinking for idiots is tiring. the idiots look at you. they look and still come over into your lane and do 40!!:wtf:

sunday on the way home got almost taken out twice by people who just join traffic or switch lanes and not even looking!

the friday before the long weekend last month when it was pouring in cape town i stopped behind a car behind a stationary car. foot on the brake. and this kid rams into me. now im without my vehicle for i dont even know how long because the stupid parts are on back oder with no ETA.

how do these people pass the test?

let's address the problem at the root, and make people take out a license to have kids...

People especially in Gauteng drive terribly.

OP, your story reminds me of something that happened on Friday to me (I would laugh this is you!). I was driving from Pretoria, cant remember what the road is called. Its the one that starts as an urban road and becomes a highway. Anyway, the speedlimit is 80, then it becomes a highway and the limit becomes 120. So, I'm driving in the right hand lane doing 80, because the limit is 80. Some idiot in a bakkie comes flying past me and flips me off. I'm like whatever. The limit becomes 120, so I speed up. The bakkie then changes into my lane to block me! So I drive past him, and he is still pulling zap signs at me. For doing 80 in an 80 zone.

OP is right in that people sit in the right hand lane when they have no reason to be there. That is one of my pet hates on the highway. But a lot of people are just too aggressive - take the idiot above. Most people, if they have to overtake someone on the left, they just go and get on with their lives. Not this idiot, for some reason. Road rage.

Erm.. why are you in the right lane? Were your overtaking someone or turning right?
FYI Your speed does not determine what lane you need to be in. It's quite simple, keep left, pass right.

Exactly what I thought when I read the post.

I was in the right hand lane because I was overtaking someone as it happens, and remember, at this point everyone else was doing 80, and the highway had just started. Actually, it had not technically started yet because the limit was still 80. So it wasnt like there was time for me to change lanes.

I was just thinking this morning on the way to work we should have a campaign with some "instructional posters" reminding people (or telling them for the first time in cases where they bought their licenses) of what to do. In particular this morning it was people stopped on a "yellow" zone obstructing other people. Small circles could really do with them too, and then obviously just a generall keep left, pass right type thing on the highways.

 Rivionia offramp this morning, people pushing in right in front makes my blood boil!!!!

And, I've noticed the amount of people using the yellow lane to help speed up their morning commute has increased as well. This is specific to johannesburg as far as I can work out. More and more people in their own vehicles are driving like taxis. Most fun I have on the way is sitting with my car half in yellow lane on Grayston, blocking all the fsckers trying this move.

+1000000! Fair enough. It's happened to me before where I only realised I missed my turn and had to push in, but this is in exceptional cases only.

I never let them in if its up to me. Nobody should ever let them in.

I never do but now and then they squeeze in, frikken frustrates me! worst is metro just sits there and only ever pulls over someone when it suits them it's total BS!

Are you talking about the R21 out of fountains circle?

Why the hell were you doing 80km/h in the right hand lane?

When they think they can get a bribe!

I think the problem with drivers in SA and in Gauteng in particular is this entitlement mentality.

How many drivers do you see talking on their cellphones? How many bitch and moan at getting speeding tickets when they were actually speeding? Everyone seems to have this "Not me" mentality. It wont happen to me because I am magically a better driver than anyone else. I am the only one who can have 6 beers and then drive home safely. I am the only one who can talk on my cellphone, or sms, and drive. Everyone else has to obey the rules because they suck, but not me.

And you try to explain to them that they are part of the reason why our roads the most dangerous in the world, and they dont get it! They think you are talking about everyone else on the road, about the taxis. Everyone blames the taxis (not that taxis are blameless), but nobody wants to take responsibility for themselves.

Because the limit was still 80 and I hadnt had a chance to move over? I dont know if thats the road, it is the one just before the Proefplaas interchange.

If the limit is 80 I'm doing 80. I just happened to be in the right hand because I had just overtaken someone, and the other guy (who may or may not be the OP) came screaming past me at 120 in an 80 zone. How would that even give me a chance to react and move over?

Deteriorating? It's always been kak. People are oblivious to the outside world and just do their own thing on the road.

Yup, I can see the problem. You need to relax.

If someone like you comes flying up behind me, tailgates me, flashing their lights and hooting. I slow right down. I am not going to risk my life because of your poor time management.
