Driving instructor offering me an "easy" pass.

Learners is easy.

Yard test was the hardest for me. There they are really looking for mistakes. When you get on the road I felt more relaxed.

Focus on getting your license the legal way. I would decide what to do with the audio recording after you have gotten the license. It's up to you.

Alternatively if you want to appear on TV you could tell the driving instructor you'll think about it and send the clip to Carte Blance and see if they want to nail the guy and his accomplice but then you will still sit without a license.

If these crooks learn that they can get easily recorded they might not make these illegal offers.

I went through a red light during my test and crossed solid white lines several times. I passed with flying colours.

Light was amber and I saw this guy coming up my ass and he would not have been able to stop, I gunned it and told the examiner why, he looked back and saw the car stop over the white/stop lines, said thanks for that.
Solid lines were impossible not to cross as the roads were so narrow and I told him so, he said don't worry I just wanna see if you can actually drive.
 
Back in the 80's when I went for my drivers: did the written and yard test and as we left the yard for the road test the guy said he can see I can drive, let's go back.

I only tried reverse parking the day before. I also had a few pints before the test to relax.

Actually its more common than you guys think. i know of many schools that have connections with examiners. the official term for it is "greasing the machinery". if you have not done it, you do not pass. infact you can do all the right things as much as you want and they still fail you. common excuse "lack of observation". the simple way of stopping this is to have cameras in testing trucks/ cars, and the must be owned by testing centres.

To the OP. Try get a recording of him offering you an "easy pass"... get as much details as possible and expose the bugger.

Who knows how many people he has killed indirectly.
 
John Robbie on 702 was getting the truth out about bribery in the traffic schools and I think it would be best to contact him. Get his details on the 702 website and let him know all the details that he should know.

And for you personally, rather take the test without help. You can do it by yourself.

Exactly, no bribe no pass. This is true!
Many pay to get it over and done with!
 
Its so common it has become a norm. "Passed" mine in 2010. 99% of the people/friends I know(in their 20's) have payed some sort of bribery. Its worse that you think.
A driving instructor will say
Bring the following with you:
your learner's licence
your identity document (ID)
four identical black-and-white photographs.
R2000 for Intshontsho(Bribe)
a booking fee.

I have heard that Close to December the Bribery is more and they tend to be careless...if you want to nail these instructors and their crew.
 
R2000 for a bribing fee?!?!?

I'd rather just learn to drive and pass it normally.
 
ok, 2 things I notice in this thread:

1) a belief that there is some way to get a drivers license without bribery - The examiners are really not interested in whether you can drive or not. They don't need a reason or excuse to fail someone. It is the easiest thing to fail someone based on points, as these can be deducted for just about anything. There is little evidence required, when the point of debate is whether somebody checked all 3 mirrors when executing a manoeuvre.

2) a belief that having passed a driver's license exam in SA, people are actually able to drive - The K53 system upon which our South African exam is based is based on a 40 year old British system. The test has so little to do with the reality of driving today, that it is absolutely scary. When doing my drivers, the instructor told me that the best thing I could do, was forget every single K53 rule the moment I passed, as otherwise I would be guaranteed to crash within the first week (most probably driving in to someone due to having to check every mirror every 10 seconds). How does checking all the mirrors every 10 seconds help anyone with driving safety? K53 does sweet f-all to improve the skills of drivers in SA. The entire system is a mess.

So how did those of us get our licences without bribing the examiner then...?
 
I got my car license first time without bribing anybody.
If you make a mistake then you need to admit to it. If there was a good reason then tell the tester why you did what you did.
Be polite and calm and friendly the whole time. It helps to call the tester Sir or Mam as it shows respect.

Unfortunately you might just get a pissed off tester who feels like failing you.
If you are offered a chance to get it "easy" then just politely decline and remain friendly. If they ask you why, you say that you believe you are a good enough driver to get through on your own merit and would prefer to do it the regular way, but thank you for the offer.
