I have been having issues for the last 3 days now with my Vodacom connection. It is consistently dropping HSDPA down to 3G then to GPRS - this happens every 2/3 minutes now and is really starting to annoy me. I only stay connected to HSDPA for less than 1 minute at a time. It is also dropping the connection nearly every time this happens and I have to reconnect. Is anyone else experiencing problems like this lately?

Area: Farrarmere, Benoni, Johannesburg
Hardware: Globetrotter 3G Card in my laptop

Switch to the [searchforum]3GOnly[/searchforum] profile setting.

Thanks - I have changed the settings and it connected (after 3 attempts). Will update on the improvements if any.

This is only a temporary fix though for what could be a long-term problem without proper investigation. Does this mean I have to go through the whole 155 thing again? Ahhh no!

Nope, as indicated by Iam3G it is probably a result of [searchforum]Cell Breathing[/searchforum] which is quite normal, all that you are doing by switching to 3GOnly [presumably from [searchforum]3G Preferred[/searchforum]], is telling your modem not to switch to a 2G base-station when it detects a large enough fluctuation in the 3G signal and there is a stronger 2G signal available.

Most of us will normally be using the 3GOnly setting most of the time, and only change to 3G Preferred temporarily when there is a real problem with 3G signal in a specific area.
