Drum machine / step sequencer build

Playing around with some wavetable synthesis on the ESP32.

Trying out these individually addressable LED's. Can connect a lot more together and access them individually for full rgb on/off control.

(Switches aren't doing anything right now...)

It's almost meditative doing wiring.

Making some buttons while I wait to get the aluminium back.

Finishing off the stuff inside. Next pics should hopefully be the finished thing. A lot more work than I anticipated but will be worth it once done.

Super satisfying having something you made communicate with stuff other people made. Midi-synced the clock and play/start status to external sequencer. Can properly play with it now.

Very happy with this R80 Temu TFT display. Next project has started...midi modulation device. Midi in for clock, modulated midi cc going out. I really like the single colour aesthetic of the OLED displays I used previously but as soon as I saw this display do something I switched to this. Opens up a lot more design options.

Housing. Modular gear is out of reach in this country so I'll have to design my things to feel like modular gear with wires coming out the top...

Rushed assembly today so I can use it over the weekend. Will tidy it up next week & powdercoat, although I don't really mind the raw aluminium.

Suppose it was inevitable that it was going to get more complex. But I've got voltage modulation now!

What does that box do with all the midi connectors?
Midi splitter. Takes one in, gives 5 out. Little chip in there that takes the incoming signal, boosts it then sends 5 copies out via separate pins. Think it's fine to passively split a midi 2 ways, but any more and you need it active.
Nice job. Why did you not made your own pc board, etching, etc.
Just more interested in trying things & tinkering right now. PCB is something I need to figure out eventually - be nice to reduce the size of these things a bit - will also make assembly much easier. Was thinking of getting some done in China - need to play around with the pcb design software.
