Drunk guy charges elephant at Kurger(?) [video]

Not sure what's worse, the guy charging the elephant or the OP not knowing whether it's Kruger or Kurger.

I don't think it was funny :mad: I bet the elephant in the video thought it was actually in danger :mad: Not funny at all.

The hell is it with all these people on their high-horses getting all angry?

He only put his own life at risk. Stupid thing to do but he's the only one that would have been killed.

Kruger. It was a typing error, but the question mark is because I wasn't sure whether it was Kruger NP or elsewhere where this happened.

You have to be drunk to pull a stunt like that. And the Game Ranger did the good thing by apologizing.
Was in Amboseli in Kenia in '94. We went for a walk in the camp we were sleeping at. (Camp - large area fenced by a 1m high electric fence that looked to be solar powered)
On the one side we came upon a solitary Elephant bull. I grabbed my camera, took a few shots then realized the only thing between me and him was 1m of DC. And his body language was not friendly.
Put camera down, smile and slowly back away to the nearest tree. My mom - bless her soul - looked at me and said 'I think I'm a faster runner than you'

And people in the vehicle? Do you have elephants in New Zealand?

Believe me, when that elephant changes its mind and wants to make you a pulp, you would wish to have a high-horse nearby.
 
Out of interest sake, other than the danger that this stunt posed to himself, what is actually wrong with what he did?

Not being an animal behaviourist I can't say but it could happen that that elephant gains a perception that humans are dangerous (which they are) and it may actively kill humans whereas it may have treated them a little more curiously.

I think like most people he would just like the gene pool to be cleansed.
 
Scanned through the comments here ... people wishing death and worse on the man, calling his actions "disgraceful", "disgusting", etc, etc. Hoo boy, I thought, he must be guilty of inhumane cruelty.

Then watched the clip, waiting for the part that prompts the outrage and condemnation. But the version on YouTube is obviously censored - there are no bad scenes where he attacks the animal with an axe (or whatever).

The censored version only shows a deekhed being urged on by mates to run towards the animal. Stoopid.

Anybody have a link to the full uncensored video? I'm curious to see the parts that cause such harsh condemnation.

People in the vehicle are encouraging them, so if they get taken out I say it's their own fault too :p

Yes we have elephants here, at the zoo :D

Hey don't act like I'm a Kiwi! Still grew up and spent most of my life in SA, I have been in a game reserve before. Sadly not Kruger though, wish I did. I sure as hell would be keeping my distance from that elephant!
