DSG or Manual gearbox?

I recently had the privelage to test drive the new Golf 6 GTI and was very impressed with the car.....it is fabulous!

However, something that I've been wondering about.....is the choice between the manual gearbox, or DSG.

I took a Golf 5 GTI DSG for a spin and wasn't really impressed. The DSG gearbox is fast, but you don't feel 'involved' with the car, if you know what I mean.

However, it was just awesome with the manual Golf 6 GTI. I loved it.

I was thinking of getting the Golf 6 GTI DSG, but now I'm not so sure anymore.

Your thoughts?
 
The manual is fun! Its a short shift gearbox and makes the car more fun to play with. The biggest difference is that the DSG is so good compared to any other gearbox in the world! DSG is also faster than the manual by 0.3s.

I also think DSG has a higher resale but it also costs more.
Either one is good. Sometimes id like the DSG and other times prefer the manual.

Upto you I guess, your driving style, your choice.

BTW Ive heard good things about the MK6, standard its not the big disappointment people thought it would be, guys have already started tinkering with it and finding huge gains!!!

Some guys are saying that the 155kw rating is BS and they raced it against a BWA with a chip(thats around 190kw) and the MK6 won!!!:eek::eek:

Hmm lets see what happens later...

LOL....haven't bought it yet, JK8.....or should I say 'ordered it' yet. ;)

Apparently all the MK VI Golfs get imported now and Uitenhage only manufacture Polos.
 
I drove a TDI DSG - It was brilliant. Much faster than changing gears manually in town. Traffic is so bad these days, manuals are less and less appealing when 90% of your driving is spent in gridlock.

The new Golf GTD would have been my first choice, but VW SA has decided that nobody in South Africa would be interested. *sigh*
 
I'd say go with the DSG if you're going to get a Golf 6 GTI...

BUT as a personal opinion, I'd say its pissing money down the drain, the golf 6 is HORRIBLY overpriced for what it is.

its actually the same price as the outgoing model ... is it not?

On Topic: a DSG out of plan, can be costly if it breaks ... i know a DCT box on the M3 and GTR-35 Nissan is in the region of R250k! :0 ... DSG is the same tech, maybe not as expensive but def gonna be expensive. Also in the past sports cars were only manual, but double clutch systems are changing this, they faster, lighter on juice than their manual counterparts ... The GTR35, M3 DCT, Porsches PDK ... even though these are not double clutched systems but they more popular than their manual counterparts is the F1 ferrari F430's and E-gear Lambo's ...

From What I can see the base price on the Golf 5 GTI was R271000 and the new Golf 6 GTI is R317000....

Bit of a jump if you ask me... esp since the Golf 6 is supposed to be CHEAPER to manufacture.

Nope both 2009 models are around 320k.
 
and the 2008 price for the Golf 5 GTI (which was already overpriced for what it is)
 
Just swopped my 6 speed manual for a 7 speed semi-automatic; must say while I enjoyed manual ito control and overall experience, the primary con for me is "hassle", especially in city traffic. Also, although I always have the option now to manually select gears, its just not the same and lazyness got the better of me.

so DSG ftw
