hi, i am new in southafrica. i want to know the exact steps and accurate minimum charges of installing broadband dsl in my home. i want 1mbps unshaped uncapped broadband connection.

friends, please guide me the steps of installing broadband and initial charges.

thanks.

I started a thread with all the steps it takes.

Also, if you want unshaped you will have to get a business account and the price will vary according to the isp you choose.

thanks alot guyz

it means that telkom landline connection to install any company adsl line is compulsory?

am i right?

Yes. You need a postpaid Telkom voice line that is activated for DSL use. You can then get an ISP to manage the line for you so that you do not have to deal with Telkom. Out of my experience I would suggest Afrihost Business Uncapped 1Mbps. The line will be upgraded to 2Mbps as soon as Telkom are done with their rollout. The AH business bundle package costs R397 pm and the telkom voice line will cost you around R160 pm. Installation of the voice line will be about R600 if there is already infrastructure at your home.

So what will be the total amount per month if I get afrihost 1mb business uncapped with telkom adsl line with landline...

Telkom Voice Line: R157pm
Afrihost Business Uncapped 1Mbps Bundle (DSL line included - managed by Afrihost): R397

But afrihost giving its dsl line for minimum 2mbps in 149rand and 1mbps business package is for 297rand so it became 446 and u are saying 397.... iam confused bro. Please help me regarding this.....

Thanks....

It is cheaper when you get it in a bundle.

See here - 1Mbps Business Uncapped Bundle: http://www.afrihost.com/site/product/business_adsl_bundles?src=website_nav

Things may seem confusing because of Telkom still doing upgrades

Now I get clear... thanks alot dear... I love this community...

One more thing I want to ask that afrihost business bundle is unshaped? What speed I will get on 1mbps on torrent with full seeders??

Second thing I wanna ask that afrihost is best affordable option for me or is there any other better option available also??

Thanks.

Business account is completlely unshaped. No punsihment for high usage and full priority on downloads and torrents.

Note: If you do get a business account and plan to use torrents, you will have to turn protocol prioritisation off via Clientzone (logging in on Afrihost's website)

Optimistically the maximum download throughput on a 1Mbps line is gonna be about 125KBps. The quality of your line, distance from the exchange, etc are going to be a factor.

Concerning other ISP's, the only other ISP that I have heard mostly good things about is OpenWeb. Their Unshaped Package is their Platinum Uncapped. See here: http://www.openweb.co.za/platinum_uncapped.html

This isn't a bundle, does not include the ADSL line and costs R789pm. (The DSL line would be about R150 extra)

Afrihost should be the best value for money. Another thing is they definitely have the best support system out of all the ISPs. Except for the regular email support, you can get support via MyBroadband Forum, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Live Chat Support via Afrihost.com

Hmmm. Thanks for the guide. I will go definitely with afrihost. If it will available in my area. But how I check if its available in my area or not?

You will have to phone Telkom on 10210 and ask them if there is infrastructure at you home. (give them your address)

If telkom landline is avalaible in my area then how would I know that afrihost is also available in my area becoz both are different companies...

If you have a landline it will work, the different companies don't matter.
