My new 4MB line at home... The modem will randomly start loosing sync every couple of minutes, then resync and everything is fine. This then goes on for a few hours, and then it stablizes and stays sync'ed for a few hours, untill the entire process starts over again. I'm -really- not sure whether I can trust the stats from my modem though, surely, this can't be right?

Connection Status Connected
Upstream Rate (Kbps) 448
Downstream Rate (Kbps) 4096
US Margin 0
DS Margin 18
Modulation MMODE
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 31
US Line Attenuation 0
Path Mode Interleaved

Mine did this with a terrible noise on the phone line. Might be cableing error.

There seems to be a problem with your upstream. Firstly it should be 512 and not 448 and the US margin should be a lot better than 0. Looks like you downstream is good which is weird and they both should be bad if there is interference. Maybe one of the 2 wires is damaged somewhere in the street.

Called Telkom - fault detected... Seems someone is standing on my wires where they shouldn't be. Thanks guys, I'm sure Telkom will manage to sort it out.
