My application for ADSL access on my new Telkom line was logged on Telkom system on 23 December. I have not heard from them yet, but yesterday the DSL LED on the front started to flash. It keeps on flashing. What should I make of this?

Options:
1. Could Telkom be busy with setup and it will stop flashing and go constant green when I can proceed with self-install?
2. Could there be problems with my phone line installation? I have not even connected a normal phone to the line, since it was installed on 22 December. I only hooked up the router\modem and have been waiting ever since. Will not be using this line for voice. :)

Does anyone have any advice? I did try and do the quick ADSL setup in modem yesterday, but the bootup with CD process said that it cannot communicate with modem and the quick setup process via web interface said it could not get dsl sync.

Perhaps I should log a fault immediately?

Try phoning them and see if your ADSL access application has been processed.

Also see if your modem is syncing by going into the settings by connecting to ethernet cable and going to 192.168.1.1 (By default) the username and password should be admin if you haven't changed it. There should be a summary of the sync rate etc. Maybe also check the SNR Margin and Attenuation. (You can read up on it here)

You can also set up your connection from the there (If your ADSL line is acivated)

Try using the telkom guest account and see if you can verify your line at http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl

Had the same problem, just took a bit of patience :)

I'm no expert, but I hope that helps :)

Hmmm, Does the DSL LED flash slowly or does it alternate between fast and slow?

I ask this because a slow flashing on the DSL LED means that there is currently no ADSL activated on your line. If the DSL LED starts flashing slowly and then accelerates and goes faster, then back to slow, that means that the ADSL is activated and it is trying to sync. If the DSL LED is stable then your ADSL has synced and you should be connected.

I figured out that when I power the modem down and up again, the DSL light would be off for a few hours. It will then start flashing steadily again. Telkom has still not called.

Now I wonder... How can it be that when Telkom launched self-install, it took abou 48 hours to setup. Now it takes 14 days according to the call centre staff. Is it possible that Telkom stuffed this up too?
