Hi guys,

Recently moved back to Stellenbosch and would like to know if anyone is actually seeing DSL synching speeds greater than 4mbs? "UP TO 10MBS"

I tried calling Telkom and asking their technical guys, but ya... what is new?

AFAIK , there are many DSLAMs in and around Stellenbosch and some work was done on them in April...

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Any reason behind them limiting the max connection to say 4096kbps even if the exchange supports 10mbps?

I don't know actually. I have reason to believe that the exchange I am connected to could also support higher, but my line is still stuck at 4mbps.

Might have something to do with the equipment your line is terminated on.

Equipment?!

I don't have a line yet...

Still investigating and doing some R&D

The line you might eventually order though, will need to be terminated on a DSLAM in the exchange. If that DSLAM is still one of those that jan van riebeeck brought across in his boat, of which epic telkom sa seems to have waaaay too many, then your line is probably gonna be stuck at 4 mbps.

That sucks!

Interestingly enough though, I see many of the of the exchanges listed on broadbandstats show that they only support 4096, but I know this is not 100% true as some of the exchanges in Kennilworth, Rondebosch and Mowbray side do indeed synch above 4096.

The exchange I am on is reported to only receive speeds of 384kbps... I am on a 1Mbps line.

hmm just checked a clients router stats that is in techno park, also just 4meg , would think they be 10mps by now because it is a business area

If you order a 4 meg line or above that speed, they should put you on the new DSLAMs (IMAX) if there are ports available.
