DStv is launching 4K broadcasts — this is the decoder subscribers need

MultiChoice announced that it would broadcast the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar in 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) on DStv. However, not all its Explora decoders support the technology.

The broadcaster told MyBroadband that its customers would need the DStv Explora Ultra or new DStv Streama to watch the tournament in 4K UHD on its platforms.

So if you want yo watch the Footie World Cup in 4K you must buy a new decoder. They not promising to broadcast anything else in 4k ...

What I would like to know is how much satelitte bandwidth is dedicated to the 4K channels - or whether they are compressing the hell out of it.

They must be really desperate if they hanging on to old antiquated means of content delivery. Truth is they will try milk the naive and uninformed for every rand they have. Have been DSTV free for 11 months now and not missing them one bit

And after the world cup it would useless. No other 4k channels etc.

They do like to make their customers spend money on crap.

Hey here is an idea - why don't we stream crap over our already useless streaming platform in 4K. That will fix everything.

Oh if this is going over satellite you can easily expect something extremely crisp like 4K HDR with bleeding edge 1000kbps compression.

It is going out via satellite, why you need yo rush out and buy an Ultra Decoder, before they out of stock.

Do you need explora ultra with internet or just the ultra decoder and dish
