Hi folks

We are doing an article on the perceived higher volume of ads on DSTV than the programs. Can you please say whether you think the ads are louder than the programs?

I don't think. I know it is louder.

Irritates the &^%$^& out of me.

I skip through all the ads, but on certain shows/channels it's so much louder that the household wakes up when the ads come on, it's a scramble for the remote!

I know why they do it... they presume you run off to pee or the kitchen during adverts, since you arent actually watching, they at least still want you to hear it!!! lol

Luckily my Samsung has auto volume levels which helps alleviating this! ;)

Still irritating though!

Who the hell answered NO? Do you not watch DSTV? Are you deaf?

Then there is Discovery channel which ALWAYS drops the volume to 50% - I mean WTF?

Mad thing is that you think that's being funny

...I'm convinced this is actually the case.

One of the reasons that advertisers like to put sound in adverts is for that exact reason - so it's not at all far fetched to adjust the volume accordingly too.

I wanted to say

""The loud ads irritates the snot outa me...and I pay you for that !!??...it's like Vodacom allowing dumb@sses to spam me........""

But then I canceled you fuskers, so I probably don't have the right to comment......

Ahh...I feel so much better...thank you..;)

Its so annoying. I can be watching TV at normal volume levels but as soon as an ad comes on..... Hell breaks loose.

Without a doubt there is a difference in volume between adverts and programming. I don't know if it is laziness, incompetence or intentional but it drives me mad.

My guess is that they just can't be bothered.

There is also a big difference between individual channels.

It's a problem on the SABC channel's and Etv as well.

Etv in particular love to have this very loud intro at the beginning of every advert break.

I find the educational channels on DSTV very soft, so you have to turn it up to hear. Then the advert breaks are so loud you have to mute them or your TV will break

The problem is that the volume throughout the DStv spectrum differs.
This happens when changing to different channels. I know for certain SS1 is louder....

But is this a decoder fault/flaw or is it MultiChoice?
