DSTV advice / help

Guys just to confirm, sorry for all questions,
I connected the HD downstairs now and it works, obviously HD will only now work on HDMI.
Am I understanding this correctly?

So basically:

1) Can I run Ethernet from out of the HD PVR? Or does it have to be out of the HD PVR HDMI port? I now have the decoder HD downstairs and have disconnected the SD one altogether.
So basically I need to run Ethernet out the HD PVR upstairs into converter but will this enable the HD signal or does it have to be the other way around? What I mean is does it have to come out of the HDMI port on the decoder? If yes then how the bloody **** do you run 25m of HDMI?

Ok decided to just go with HD and get rid of the SD PVR, its actually not needed. There are not enough people in the house.
So again please explain this:

The SD + HD decoder is probably best and easiest imo. Just connect the SD to the HD with the three cables from a switch and you're good to go...

You need to get HD from the HDMI port.

The max length of HDMI cable is about 15m so you will need an HDMI extender.

The extender plugs into the HDMI port on the decoder then has 1 or 2 rj45 connectors depending on the model.
You plug the network cable into that and then run it to the upstairs room.
You plug the extender receiver into the network cable upstairs which has the HDMI plug for the tv

I consider myself very technical but really this is madness :D

So basically HDMI cable coming out HD PVR then going into the converter ( HDMI to Ethernet) then run the thernet cable upstairs and then what you need another converter?
So basically 2 x converters ?

Well basically a sender reciever (it converts the HDMI signal for transport over twisted pair and then converts it back to HDMI)

HDMI is horrible for video transport.

Ok spoke to them , jeeez man really R1100 for the transmitter and receiver.
This is seriously the most retarded bloody thing I have ever seen.
You telling me Multichoice do not think other people want to run this like I have?

I am now wondering if this splitter you guys spoke about is perhaps the better way to do it? Well the cheaper way.

Of course it is. You have all the necessary equipment - no point ditching the SDPVR for no reason. Just buy the splitter (few hundred bucks) and some rf cables and you're sorted. And it's piss easy...

I think this is the only way now, have to use 2 x cables downstairs and 2 x cables upstairs, no other way.
Keep SD PVR downstairs and keep HD PVR upstairs.
this transmitter / receiver is ridiculously expensive

You don't need a transmitter - you can use these - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/498150-HDMI-over-ethernet which I believe are pretty cheap. They come in a pair which is what you're after.

But at the end of the day you have the equipment for an SD + HD combo and it costs you nothing extra. Just buy the splitter and the cables...

Multiswitch is the way to go. I understand your issue is getting the extra satellite wires upstairs, you could try and put the switch outside (with some weatherproofing) as it doesn't require power and then run the extra cables from outside to the room upstairs.

Where would you buy this one?

Probably HD Cabling. I did a quick search and see that might actually be what people in this thread were referring to for a few grand. Pretty sure the cables I posted in my thread aren't nearly that price...
