DStv billing problems - MultiChoice explains

seems like someone dropped a database/table and restored an old one hoping nobody would notice.. friend of mine hasn't had DSTV in over a year and they debited his account.

I thought so too but looks like its not all customers, its customers with a credit on their account. So I think it was more a logic thing than a data loss.

Thats what I figured as well...

Must actually check with my folks if theirs reactivated... although it was on a CC Debit Order which they apparently don't do anymore, so maybe the payment type was just ignored.

Frigging morans, if this was a 1st world country everyone would get 1 month free or something like that but a cANCer run organisation... well nuff said :(

Why would they reveal this information?

I've never seen a company publicly reveal the details of a mistake with systems in any great detail.

There's plenty of instances in the states where company gave more of an explanation than what Mc did. I can provide you some links, you see it in the gaming community on new launches.

Ok, do these companies give more details on intricate things that revolve around their billing systems etc etc, or issues relating to their new gaming product?

I don't disagree that more info would be nice, but given that this issue obviously happened on a mission critical company specific internal system, I'm not expecting them to do so since it MAY reveal too much detail about how things work/happen inside the business.

No big deal but when I cancelled early this year there was a small credit left on my account.

Can't see my account on the new system they've implemented so I assume the credit has been written off in their favour and hopefully not been applied because the account was reinstated.

Fortunately I used to pay by EFT so I don't have to worry about debit orders.
 The idiots obviously haven't sorted out the problem yet as my account has apparently been reactivated and I just received an SMS looking for R42.80 by the 8th or they'll cut me off. I'm just going to ignore them as I've better things to do with my time than fight their call centre to get my credit balance back.
