why cant we just pick the channels we want and then pay per channel?

Precisely what I was thinking. It's because, like everythingthing else in SA, the consumer is forced to pay a premium for **** we don't want or need.

If you take the DSTV Premium package - R 499.00 and it offers you 87 channels (65 of which are crap) - that works out to R 5.73 per channel. I would happily pay R15 to R20 a channel if I was able to choose what channels I wanted, without any minimum number, or bundled crap with it. I have never had DSTV and never will bother with it until they offer me the freedom I want.

Besides - I download and watch what I want, when I want off the net. And I get it long before it ever airs on DSTV.

What a useless article, the same info is available on their site. 2 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

I concede this isn't another annoying cheap ad - good to see the comparison. But here's what I'd like to know/see:

1. Where's the package without the SABC channels?
2. Why is there no watered down package with some of the important sports channels such as SS1 and SS2?
3. Surely there should be a package with MNet and some other meaningful channels?

I wish DSTV would just wise up, charge us per channel, and then let us "configure" our own bouqet. That way I can choose which channels I'd like that fits my pocket and not be forced to pay a crapload of money JUST to get Discovery Channel and History Channel going.

Absolutely ... and I would be happy to pick the channels I want and pay accordingly.

However, with such varied preferences in my household, I would probably be paying twice the existing price

The packages are crap. We pay for something that we never watch. They are always repeating the same thing over an over again! They are making a lot of money out of nothing.

They should let us choose the channels we want, then the service would improve for all channels. I heard someone saying each channels is paid according to the number of subscribers watching it per duration, is that so? Then why don't the damn useless channel disappear?

Does anyone have info on the international dish's free channel and how to set them up. I am sure they are far better than DSTV.

Technically speaking you should be able to Pay Per View and content will be delivered to you via the internet in H.264 MP4 files.

Like porn sites really.

Even DStv Premium has a poor selection of channels.
For 500 bucks we should be getting at least 200 channels.
What about all the other Discovery channels? MTV2, MTV Dance, SciFi :(

I only want to see:

Mnet
Series
Movie 1
Movie 2
Discovery
MK

That's 6 channels of which 5 is only available on the premium.
I don't need the other 81.
Can't wait for ODM to launch.

Guy at work complains why does he have to pay for the indian channels, when there are italian, portuguese, arabic etc channels for free as part of the premium bouquet.

I told him indians never give you anything for free, lol.
