what is very funny for me is the cheaper packages doesnt have any of the good channel like mnet/-movies1/2 or ss1 and 2 and all the docmentary channels. Now my question is what do people watch on the other packages other than soccer And sabc?

I wish DSTV would just wise up, charge us per channel, and then let us "configure" our own bouqet. That way I can choose which channels I'd like that fits my pocket and not be forced to pay a crapload of money JUST to get Discovery Channel and History Channel going.

I agree.
We have 12 sports channels. I might watch 1 or 2 at the most.
The rest of the time it is on one of the documentary channels.

lol @ 87 channels !

dstv choice is an illusion...... between poor and crap.

and they continue to get away with it since the competition failed to materialised.

How many of that 87 are free-to-air channels overseas?

Will be interesting to see if any of the ppl from DSTV pick up this thread... Doubt it though!

I've actually emailed and asked them directly before... the response at the time was pretty much "We think this would be impractical and people are happy with our current selection."

why cant we just pick the channels we want and then pay per channel?

I agree, everything but premium has rubbish channels..

I doubt they will do this until they have to, other wise they cant force us to pay the 450 or what ever for all the other channels that nobody cares about.

There is the option as well to disconnect from the DSTV transmission completely until you choose to reconnect again, R50.00 reconnection fee.

I opted to _switch off_ two months ago and actually realised that I have not missed it all, save for this _advert_ reminding me again.

But now I am too busy using up my FREE 10GB bandwidth from WA that I doubt that I will opt to _switch on_ for quite some time :D

Maybe others opted to _switch off_ too, hense the need to advertise?

DSTV is a real rip off, i went to Vietnam earlier this year and Pay TV costs them around $6 a month for 60 odd channels and 2 of them are DSTV supersport channels.

Its def an ad....
Now just compare the crap DSTV has to offer to Sky TV in the UK...
http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts/skytv/pricesandpackages

Oh and they get a HD PVR decoder for 49 pounds...we are so being ripped off!

I disconnected about 3 months ago.
On week ends I go watch the sports at a friend's place or a public venue.

Now if DSTV let us choose the channels we want to watch or gave us at least some proper choice like the packages that sky offers they may entice me back.
But I am not prepared to subsidize the majority of channels that I am not interested in watching.
