I won't be supporting this.

If I want to watch a new release I will download it from other sources, convert it to MP4 and stream it to my Apple TV. Hopefully one day in the not too distant future I won't even have to do the conversion part and can get Netflix / iTunes content legally on the ATV box.

Anyone have any clue what this service is actually gonna offer over DSTV they already provides? From my perspective, if you wanted to watch a movie you missed you could record it on your PVR, dont know why you would pay for it. I guess if they listed very old movies it could be worth it. Hope it doesnt mean that they delay newer movies being shown on DSTV meaning you have to pay for the latest content cos that is just Telkom like.Next thing you know, the RWC will be pay-per-view

It has to be stored on the PVR HD, keep in mind that DSTV satellite communication is only unidirectional unless we can connect the PVR to an Internet connection.

If communication is only in one direction then once your decoder receives the signal to store some content then that what it do just that, the same it it does for catch up and for recorded content.

However if communication is bidirectional, then your PVR could instruct DSTV that you are ready to watch the movie and then they can start streaming it to your PVR via the the satellite system (or other). If they do it this way, then what happens if they only have bandwidth for say x movies at any one time, how would it work if x+1 people request a movie at the same time?

Edit: I just reread the article, to me it says that the content will be downloaded and once complete made availble for viewingg, remember this is not video on demand, so there is no reason why you can't rent the movie via a website and then wait until its on your PVR. This to me makes the most amount of sense when you have limited bandwidth available like on a satellite downlink.

uhm where did you get this info from dude? think logically....you really think they gonna only rent 4 movies?
there will be hundreds to pick from....try storing that on your 160(whatever size) GB drive already crammed with on demand crap and your e-tv pornos...

That is incorrect; your hard drive will not be capable to handle what you are purporting. I think after you pay you should be able to stream the movie right away while the content is being saved on the hard drive concurrently.

He is correct.Content play through your "on demand tuner" and your pvr records it in the background.

This is PUSH VOD.Perhaps you chaps should consult google what it actually means.

You WON'T have hundreds of titles to choose from,but roughly 4-6 every 48hours.After 48hours it gets replaced by another batch.You don't need huge space on your hdd.
