DStv Box Office will launch in July

Hopefully decent quality and not like the current dstv OnDemand

I cant remember what a DSTV dish was capable off in terms of bandwidth. But I wonder if it would need some sort of buffer period. In any event I can get a BluRay for R27 within walking distance I don't see myself using this type of service often unless the price is really competitive. Which it won't be because no doubt all the movie rental franchisors got around a table with DSTV, Ster Kinekor, Nu Metro and threw their dummies out if they did not get there way.

Doubt it will be full HD. Anyway... with contract at my local video shop a blu-ray = R10 :D

Doesnt work that way, all content will be streamed in the backround prior to being made avaliable. By the time you can rent a particular movie, it will already be on the hard drive of your PVR, so you can watch immediately without delay.

Interesting to see whether Premium subscribers will get a set amount of movies free or not.

Why would they? I'm sure it will only be available to premium subscribers

Not exactly excited about this. But that's just me.

Hope DStv box office dosent get awl the rights. Then southtel is ****d and dstv will once again win

what i would like to know is why are we paying a subscription if we now have to pay extra for the movies. All that is going to happen is that on the normal movie channels we will see even more repeats and old stuff and the only time you would see something new is when you pay for it extra. Talk about being ripped off - and everybody thinks it is so cool......weird......

Look its all cyclic. If you want to watch a latest releases you will have to pay for that just like a DVD rental. Or wait the 1-2 year peroid for it to show up on DSTV. There is no way in hell you will pay R500 odd per month and get latest DVD releases thrown in. I'm betting PPV movies cost over R30. You're paying for "convience" you see.

uhm where did you get this info from dude? think logically....you really think they gonna only rent 4 movies?
there will be hundreds to pick from....try storing that on your 160(whatever size) GB drive already crammed with on demand crap and your e-tv pornos...

That is incorrect; your hard drive will not be capable to handle what you are purporting. I think after you pay you should be able to stream the movie right away while the content is being saved on the hard drive concurrently.
